EBU Releases An Official Statement Regarding Russia’s Participation at Eurovision 2022

Ukraine has been through a painful situation in the last few days, following Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine territory.

At the beginning of the events, Ukraine approached to the EBU and requested to remove Russia from Eurovision 2022. They believed that Russia recent acts aren’t alligned with the values and norms that each EBU member should fullfil.

The EBU commented that Eurovision is apolitical event, and threfore Russia is welcomed to participate.

However, other countries decided to demand EBU act over the recent events.

And now, the EBU has released an official statement which cancells the particiapation of Russia at Eurovision 2022:

The EBU added:

The decision reflects concern that, in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine, the inclusion of a Russian entry in this year’s Contest would bring the competition into disrepute.

Before making this decision the EBU took time to consult widely among its membership.

The EBU is an apolitical member organization of broadcasters committed to upholding the values of public service.

We remain dedicated to protecting the values of a cultural competition which promotes international exchange and understanding, brings audiences together, celebrates diversity through music and unites Europe on one stage.

Therefore, this means that only 17 conutries will participate in semi-final 1:

FIRST HALF OF THE SHOW (SONGS 1-9)
SECOND HALF OF THE SHOW (SONGS 10-18)
