Russian Broadcasters Leave the EBU

Yesterday, the EBU took action over Russia‘s participation at Eurovision 2022.
Following the concerning events in Ukraine, after Russia invaded Ukraine territory.

Ukraine approached the EBU and demanded to remove Russia from Eurovision 2022 participating countries. Due to pressure from several countries, the EBU has decided to expel Russia from Eurovision 2022!

But now another step was taken, according to Tass, 3 Russian broadcasters: VGTRK, Channel 1, and Radio Dom Ostankino have decided to leave the EBU.

In a mutual statement, they recated:

Channel One, VGTRK and Radio Dom Ostankino announce their withdrawal from the European Broadcasting Union in response to Russia’s exclusion from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which we regard as an inappropriate political sacrifice at a music forum that has always emphasized its non-political status

The EBU will hold a special meeting on Monday to discuss the consequences of the EBU decision not to allow Russia to participate in Eurovision 2022.
The ending of the membership from Russia‘s side means that Russia won’t be able to take part or broadcast any of the EBU events, including Eurovision itself
