Norwegian broadcaster NRK has just confirmed the country’s participation in Eurovision 2024.
As always (besides 1997), Norway will choose a song and an artist for Eurovision via “Melodi Grand Prix”
NRK opens submission window for “Melodi Grand Prix 2024″

- NRK will prioritize songs that are written/composed by at least one Norwegian writer/composer.
- Each composer/singer/writer/producer can submit up to 3 songs.
- The submission window will close on the 31st of August 2023 at 23:59.
- The performer must be at least 16 years old by April 2024.
- NRK will invite some artists, composers and writers to submit songs to the contest.
- The selected songs must be shortened (if needed) to 3 minutes duration for “Melodi Grand Prix 2024″.
- In contrast to the past editions, the submitted songs can be released after the 1st of September. IN the past, NRK prohibited releasing the songs before the announcements of the candidates.
The new rules will probably increase the chances of established artists submitting songs to the contest.
Some want to release songs in the period of Autumn 2023.
This new rule might raise a conversation about the potential success of songs, based on their popularity after the release date.
Nevertheless, the participants will still be announced in January.
Melodi Grand Prix
In recent years, the format of “Melodi Grand Prix” has changed from time to time.
In 2018-2019, the national selection included one show only.
Since 2020, 3-5 semi finals were added to the fromat.
In 2023, the international jury members were back after several years of absence.
Norway joins a list of countries that have already confirmed their participation at Eurovision 2024.
Among the we can find: Sweden (the host country), Germany, Spain, Israel, The Netherlands, Finland, France, Luxembourg and more
Alessandra Mele represented Norway at Eurovision 2023 with the song “Queen of Kings”.
