Its been revealed by EBU and Spanish broadcaster RTVE that Spain will host Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Spain ended in the 2nd place in Junior Eurovision 2023, represented by Sandra Valero who sang ”Loviu”, but it was won by France.
It was decided that Spain for very first time will host the competition since they debuted in Junior Eurovision history.
Spain debuted in 2003, represented by Sergio with the song “Desde el cielo” where they came in 2nd place with 125 points, but in fallowing year Spain won the competition with María Isabel with the song “Antes muerta que sencilla”.
Spain took hiatus from the competition after 2006 participation. They came back in 2020, where Soleá performed the song “Palante” and came in 3rd place.
Martin Österdahl, the Junior Eurovision Executive Supervisor said:
‘Twenty years after their Junior Eurovision Song Contest win, we’re thrilled to finally bring the Contest to Spain. We’re grateful to RTVE for accepting to host the 22nd edition of the competition which gives young artists from across Europe an incredible platform to showcase their talent. We’re very much looking forward to the fiesta that awaits in Spain later this year!’
The rules of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest do not require the winning broadcaster to host the following year, as in the Eurovision Song Contest, but they do receive first refusal should they wish to stage the next year’s competition.
France Télévisions decided to hand over the organization of the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Ana María Bordas, Spain’s Head of Delegation at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and JESC Steering Group Member said:
‘RTVE welcomes with great enthusiasm EBU’s invitation for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to be held in Spain.
For RTVE, hosting the next JESC is another step in the effort that the public broadcaster has made in recent years to promote Eurovision in Spain and give more relevance to our music.
From now on, RTVE will work closely with the EBU and the Steering Group to organize the best JESC possible. We will employ our best creative, technical and human resources to offer a festival designed for young artists in a festive and safe environment.
We are sure that the Spanish public will also receive this announcement with great enthusiasm and will welcome the Eurovision community with open arms.’
The Host City and dates for the 2024 Contest will be announced in due course, but we already know first countries and participants for Junior Eurovision 2024 and they are:
- Italy: Simone Grande
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Spain (Host Country)
France won Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 who was won by Zoé Clauzure with the song “Cœur” who came in first place with the 228 points.
