Musical Review

Translated Lyrics

I stand in the eye of the spiral
One of them billion, billion, billions
My soul slips from this tide
One of them billion, billion, billions
One of them billion, billion, billions
And I descend to the centre of the earth
I may be dreaming, but the atoms are awake
Spill the tea on reality and the 0.618

What ya gonna do in the real world Mickey?
What ya gonna do when you see?
Milkali (Milkali kutju), milkali
Escape with us to the planets
To the Fleetwood Macs and the Janets
Milkali, la
While entertaining the gods

Onе milkali, la, milkali, la
It’s raining love
One milkali, la, milkali, la

We’rе on a gravitron, as it tangles
With them billion, billion, billions
Of our souls and angels
We kiss and matter dismantles

To see we don’t own the universe
Feel the borders blur, we belong to her
I may be dreaming, but the atoms are awake
Spill the tea on reality and the 0.618

What ya gonna do in the real world Mickey?
What ya gonna do when you see?
Milkali (Milkali kutju), milkali
Escape with us to the planets
To the Fleetwood Macs and the Janets
Milkali, la
While entertaining the gods

One milkali, la, milkali, la
It’s raining love
One milkali, la, milkali, la
While entertaining the gods
One milkali, la, milkali, la
It’s raining love
One milkali, la, milkali, la

Milkali (Milkali kutju)
Milkali (Milkali kutju)
One milkali, la, milkali, la
It’s raining love
One milkali, la, milkali, la

Poetry Analysis

The song talks about topics like unity and spirituality. The song acknowledges the differences between individuals, but at the same time emphasizes the similarities and mutual contribution we can give to the world.
The first verse starts with existential detachment, describing an imaginary vision of someone who looks at universe from outside, and then coming back to the earth. The spokesperson can see each one of the billion atoms, which tells us he recognizes the huge universe and all the people living there. The number 0.618 is mentioned as a tribute to the golden share in Math, this is a metaphor to the secrets and harmony of the world.
The chorus puts unity and humanity in the center, marking all us as one blood, even though we are different. This is the formula to get an infinite love (“It is raining love”).
The pre-chorus mentions escaping to other universes. The spokesperson mentioned things he likes that make him feel comfortable in this world: Fleetwood Macs (British-American rock band), The Janets (The 10th episode of the 3rd season in the American series “The Good Place“) and etc. Those are mentioned in order to show how people from different places and cultures might unite together, focusing on positive things.

Initial Personal Ranking

12th in semi-final 1, 21st overall

The impact of the allocation in semi-final 1

Among the countries that usually vote for Australia, 6 countries will vote in semi-final 1: Iceland, Poland, Sweden, Finland, UK, and Germany.

Betting Odds

The song was released on March 5th.
During the first 3 days, Australia was in the 18th-20th place in the betting odds.
Thereafter, Australia has been ranked 21st for 3 days.
Continue in the range of 23rd-25th for 4 days.
Since the 17th of March, Australia has been in the range of 26th-29th, mostly around the 27th place.

Early Prediction

Relying on the vocal level, I am sure we will get a fantastic performance.
However, I think staging such a song will be a challenge.
It can be either a simple live performance or either too overloaded.
Semi-final 1 is open to almost any combination of qualifiers.
Something about the structure of the song is a bit weird.
I tend to see this as a borderline qualifier/non-qualifiers.
If Australia qualify, they will end up around 16-22 in the final.

Silia Kapsis – Liar

Vasiliki Silia Kapsis is a 17 years old Australia singer, dancer and actress.

Musical Review

Lyrics

Waking up in the morning and I’m
I’m feeling like ooh-la-la
It’s about to go down cause I found out the truth, la-la
9 o clock in the morning and I know this is our last night
I know what I’m doing cause
Yeah I got it on black and white

Should’ve known that you are a liar
But I looked the other way
Should’ve known you’re a trouble maker
But you act too nice to hate

I knew we couldn’t get much higher
But you promised the world to me
Do you see that you light my fire
Now I know what I know

Because of you
I’ll make it through

Take a look at yourself
Cause that is what you need to do, to do
Cause the only problem in this room
Is about you, about you
Cause you’re a liar

Liar, Liar, Liar
You lie

Waking up in the morning and I’m
I’m feeling like ooh-la-la
Now I know that your heart and your mind don’t align, la-la
I can see it in your eyes that you don’t like to be this way
I know that you’re fighting back
Guys like you can’t be changed

Should’ve known that you are a liar
But I looked the other way
Should’ve known you’re a trouble maker
But you act too nice to hate

I knew we couldn’t get much higher
But you promised the world to me
Do you see that you light my fire
Now I know what I know

Because of you
I’ll make it through

Take a look at yourself
Cause that is what you need to do, to do
Cause the only problem in this room
Is about you, about you
Cause you’re a liar

Because of you
I’ll make it through

Take a look at yourself
Cause that is what you need to do, to do
Cause the only problem in this room
Is about you, about you
Cause you’re a liar

Poetry Analysis

The song discusses topics like dishonesty, betrayal, and deception.
In the first verse, the spokesperson takes us to her experience of waking up in the morning. This is probably the morning after she found out about being betrayed.
She feels like she has been released from a heavy burden.
In the refrain, she criticized herself for not being able to see the truth before, however she blames the cheater as being too nice. This person promised to be there for her, but at the end wasn’t faithful.
In the chorus, she directly blames him and asks him to learn the lesson about his lies. She also wants to shame him.
In the second verse, the spokesperson feels safer as she is aware of his true intentions and feelings. She understands that he won’t change, and recognized his weaknesses of being revealed.
Her power to act and go on is triggered by the will to take a revenge – “because of you/ I’ll make it through”/

Cyprus released their Eurovision 2024 entry on the 29th of February.
The country has moved back and forth in the range of place 20-25, mostly around 23rd or 24th place.

Early Prediction

Cyprus was allocated to perform as the opening act of Eurovision 2024.
I believe that qualifying is very possible, especially with dynamic and energetic.
My prediction is around 9-15 in the final.

Musical Review

Lyrics

I feel it comin’
I feel it comin’

Look how far we made it
Standin’ on the edge of the promise
I’m not one to take risks
Gettin’ hurt taught me to be cautious

Maybe we should leave this
‘Cause what would be the use of crashing into you?
We could end up in pieces
Don’t need another heart-shaped bruise

I feel it comin’
Been here before and never got it right
Baby, I’m wonderin’
If fallin’ in love has got me scared of heights
I know we’re goin’ sky-high, goin’ sky-high
But what if we forgеt how to fly?
Baby, I’m wonderin’
If fallin’ in love has got me scarеd of heights

Dive in with my heart first
Still drownin’ in this rational fear (Fear)
Wish that I could unlearn
I can’t enjoy the view from up here

Maybe we should leave this
‘Cause what would be the use of crashing into you?
We could end up in pieces
Don’t need another heart-shaped bruise (No, no)

(Oh) I feel it comin’ (I feel it comin’)
Been here before and never got it right
Baby, I’m wonderin’ (Baby, I’m wonderin’)
If fallin’ in love has got me scared of heights
I know we’re goin’ sky-high, goin’ sky-high
But what if we forget how to fly?
Baby, I’m wonderin’
If fallin’ in love has got me scared of heights

I feel it comin’
I feel it comin’
[Chorus]
I feel it comin’
Been here before and never got it right
Baby, I’m wonderin’ (Baby, I’m wonderin’)
If fallin’ in love has got me scared of heights

Oh, I’m scared of heights, fell a couple times
And I barely made it out alive
Oh, I’m scared of heights, but the truth is
I’m still fallin’ if I kiss you goodbye

So, baby, I’m wonderin’
If fallin’ in love has got me scared of heights

Poetry Analysis

The song spans the different difficulties one may face during relationships.
The complexity and challenges are presented through the metaphor of heights, and the fear of heights. In the first verse, the spokesperson looks back and appreciates the way she has made so far. She has also learned to avoid taking risks, especially due to the times she got hurt.
In the pre-chorus, she presents a conflict: Should she give a chance to a new love story or she should give up, just to skip another disappointment. The “heart-shaped” scars are a metaphor for carrying the emotional consequences of the past.
The chorus emphasizes the main topic: The fear of falling in love. The metaphor of going sky-high focuses on the excitement of giving a chance to a new relationship, while being scared to lose the one you love.
In the second verse, she wants to follow her heart, but is still afraid of what might happen. She wishes she could somehow forget about the past, which limits her from enjoying the present experiences.
The song is finalized with “but the truth is I’ll still fall if I kiss you goodbye” – this showcases the internal conflict of staying in a relationship, despite the expected results.

Initial Personal Ranking

10th in semi-final 1, 19th overall

The impact of the allocation in semi-final 1

Among the countries that usually vote for Iceland, 5 countries will vote in semi-final 1: Australia, Sweden, Finland, the UK and Portugal

Betting Odds

On the 2nd of March, Hera Björk won the Icelandic national selection.
The song stayed in the top 10 for 2 days.
Later on, Iceland moved in a range of places 14-17 with the bookies for 8 days.
Thereafter, Iceland has benn ranked 18-20 with the bookies for 20 days.
Ever since then, Iceland has been ranked 23-26 at odds.

Early Prediction

Hera Björk is a great performer, but I think the song won’t appeal to the general public, as much as I wish for.
Therefore, I think Iceland is most likely not to qualify for the final.
However, If Iceland qualified, I can see them ending in the bottom 5 in the final.

Musical Review

Lyrics

Welcome. My name is Windows… Windows95man
And I only live by one rule, and the rule is… NO RULES!

(No rules…)
Silence, I say
This is my time – my stage
Call me what you may, see if I care
See me slay!

Is there something wrong with the way I look?
Is there something wrong with who I am?

If I’m not alright
Tell me why do I
Feel so beautiful tonight
NO RULES!

It’s how I live
How I find the wind beneath my wings
It’s how I learn to fly
NO RULES!

In the heat of the night
In the thrill of the fight
I don’t even care what’s wrong or right
It’s how I live my life
NO RULES!

Quiet as I speak
I am the king – I am the queen
And you all gonna be free
Forget the rules and scream!

Is there something wrong with the way I look?
Is there something wrong with who I am?

If I’m not alright
Tell me why do I
Feel so beautiful tonight
NO RULES!

It’s how I live
How I find the wind beneath my wings
It’s how I learn to fly
NO RULES!

In the heat of the night
In the thrill of the fight
I don’t even care what’s wrong or right
It’s how I live my life
NO RULES!

It’s how I live
How I find the wind beneath my wings
It’s how I learn to fly
(Make some noise, let’s go!)

In the heat of the night
In the thrill of the fight
I don’t even care what’s wrong or right
It’s how I live my life
NO RULES!

It’s how I live
How I find the wind beneath my wings
It’s how I learn to fly
(Come on!)
NO RULES!

In the heat of the night
In the thrill of the fight
I don’t even care what’s wrong or right
It’s how I live my life
NO RULES!

Poetry Analysis

The song concentrates on the ideal of living life by our own principles, and not by social norms and with no need to align to what the majority tell us to do.
In the opening, the spokesperson says that living by no rules leads him. He expresses the will in freedom and self expression. It is also express the need to be released from regulations.
He sees life as a continuous moment, where we need to find our own stage and shine. There will be no more suitable time. While sticking to ourselves, there is no wrong or right.
The spokesperson sees this as the engine that can make him fly: He dares to dream only if he follows his heart, and won’t be busy living life by rules.
The pre-chorus highlights the significance of feeling good about the we we look at and what we’ve done.

Initial Personal Ranking

15th in semi-final 1, 36th overall

The impact of the allocation in semi-final 1

Among the countries that usually vote for Finland ,6 countries will vote in semi-final 1: Sweden, Iceland, Poland, Serbia, Ireland and Lithuania.

Betting Odds

Finland chose their Eurovision 2024 entry on the 10th of February 2024.
On the first 8 days, Finland was ranked 8-10 with the bookies.
The following week, Finland has moved in a range of 11-15.
Thereafter, Finland has been ranked 16-20 for 3 weeks.
Since the 18th of March, Finland was ranked 14th-15th on the betting odds.

Early Prediction

I think Finland will most likely qualify for the final, since this is a televote oriented song.
This, even though the live performance was quite problematic.
However, I think the jury won’t like it that much in the final.
Worth mentioning is that in the final, Finland will have a tougher competition for votes due to presence of The Netherlands, Croatia and maybe additional acts in a similar flavor.
Therefore, my prediction is around 15-20 in the final (with a low score from the jury).

Musical Review

Translated Lyrics

You’re over 20 years old
You don’t have more time
To act like a child
To have fun

You have no more money
No rush
You’re really heading
Straight towards defeat

And I hear far away, far away, far away
This little voice song of a siren
That tells me “Come on
Hurry up, take my hand
Come on, I’ll take you.”

Ah, ah… Ah, ah…
That whispers at me
Ah, ah… Ah, ah…

Come, I will never let you down
I know you’re a fighter
Hold in your heart the love around
You know you’re a fighter

And I hear far away, far away, far away
This little voice that repeats to me
“Dude, where are you going?”

I admit, I admit I don’t know
I want everything and nothing at the same time
I’m gonna end up totally mad
And behold!

You don’t have the right
To stay like that
You must make choices
What do you have in your head?

Fight on battles
Believe in yourself
The world is there
Set out to conquer it

And I hear far away, far away, far away
This little voice song of a siren
That tells me “Come on
Rush to your destiny
You don’t have to brake.”

Ah, ah… Ah, ah…
That whispers at me
Ah, ah… Ah, ah…

Come, I will never let you down
I know you’re a fighter
Hold in your heart the love around
You know you’re a fighter

And I hear far away, far away, far away
This little voice that repeats to me
“Dude, where are you going?”

I admit, I admit I don’t know
I want everything and nothing at the same time
I’m gonna end up totally mad
And behold!

Hear the sound of your dreams
You are so near
They are so near
Look around

Hear the sound of your dreams
Not of your tears
And just open up your heart

Come, I will never let you down
I know you’re a fighter
Hold in your heart the love around
You know you’re a fighter

And I hear far away, far away, far away
This little voice that repeats to me
“Dude, where are you going?”

Come, I will never let you down
I know you’re a fighter
Hold in your heart the love around
You know you’re a fighter

And this voice goes away
It returns inside my head
“Dude, where are you going?”

I admit, I admit I don’t know
I want everything and nothing at the same time
I’m gonna end up totally mad
And behold!

I admit, I admit I don’t know
I want everything and nothing at the same time
I’m gonna end up totally mad
And behold!

And behold!

Poetry Analysis

The song starts with describing someone at the end of the teens years.
This is the age where the spokesperson wonders where should she go, what should be her path for life?
Her inner voice cheers her up, telling her she is a fighter and will be able to achieve whatever she wants. Later on, it becomes clear that she has no clue about her willing – “I want everything and nothing at the same time”.
Her inner voice tell her to follow her heart, and dare dream, as they might be nearby.
The easiest thing is to give up and surrender to tears, but she is determined to concertante on her dreams.

Initial Personal Ranking

7th in semi-final 1, 13th overall

The impact of the allocation in semi-final 1

It has been a long 31 years since Luxembourg competed in the contest..

Betting Odds

Tali won the Luxembourgish national selection on the 27th of January 2024.
The country has moved in a range of places in 29-35, mostly around 33rd or 34th place.

Early Prediction

Getting the sweet spot of closing semi-final 1, I feel quite comfortable to say that Luxembourg will probably qualify for the final (but this isn’t the only reason!).
It is a song that I can be both supported by the public and the jury, but not topping each one of them.
Therefore, my prediction will be around 12-18 in the final, most likely around 13-17.

In the next episode, we will discuss part of the songs from semi-
