RTK, the national broadcaster of Kosovo, launched a formal letter to the EBU expressing their willingness to apply for Eurovision 2025
This isn’t the first time the country has shared plans for Eurovision participation.
Prior to this formal letter being sent, RTK management held several meetings on this topic, including leaders of the EBU and European public broadcasters.
Shkumbin Ahmetxhekaj, The RTK’s General Director, said
We respectfully request that you consider sending an invitation to RTK to participate in the upcoming Eurosong competition. Our participation would not only be a display of Kosovo’s talents, but would also strengthen the inclusive spirit and cultural exchange that Eurovision represents.
We strongly believe that the Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political event that celebrates music, diversity and unity, values that deeply resonate with our nation
Since 2023, RTK has held an annual music festival – “Festivali i Këngës në RTK”.
This festival is based on a similar mechanims as the Albania’s “Festivali i Këngës.
Back then, La Fazani won the festival:
Kosovo’s request should be reviewed by the EBU’s governmental body, which is The Eurovision Reference Group, headed by The Eurovision Executive Supervisor, Martin Österdahl.
Politically, Kosovo is recognized as an independent country by several countries.
As for 2023, 104 out of 193 UN countires recognized it.
However, some Kosovar artists have already performed in Eurovision, as Albania’s representatives:
Rona (Eurovision 2012)
Linidita (Eurovision 2017):
Albina & Familja Kelmendi (Eurovision 2023):
Would you like to see Kosovo participating at Eurovision 2025?
Eurovision 2025 will be held in Switzerland.
