As we reported last month, 4 cities participated in the bidding to host Eurovision 2025:
Zürich, Geneva, Basel and Bern (Together with Biel/Bienne).
Swiss broadcaster SRG.SSR has just announced that following a careful examination, only 2 cities were shortlisted for hosting.
Eurovision 2025 will be held either in Geneva or Basel:
The process of selecting a host city involves an official bidding, which is monitored by the national broadcaster of the host country with the EBU.
Swiss broadcaster SRF SSG aims to select the host city by August 2024.
A city would have to meet numerous conditions to be able to recognize the ESC: including sufficiently large halls, sufficient accommodation, public transportation availability etc
Geneva
- Geneva is the second-most populous city in Switzerland, located in southwest of the country. It is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.
- The suggested arena will probably be Palexpo, with a capacity of 15,000 spectators.
- The city has an international airport, and it is quite close to the French border (Not far from the city Lyon).
- It is also the home city of the EBU headquarters.
Basel
- Basel is the third-most-populous city in Switzerland, located in northwestern Switzerland.
- One of the suggested venues is St. Jakob-Park, a football stadium with a capacity of 40,000 seats. However, this stadium will have to be fitted to an arena, adding a roof.
- Another option is St. Jakobshalle (in Münchenstein, near Basel) and suggests a capacity of 12,400 seats.
Nemo represented Switzerland at Eurovision 2024 with the song “The Code”.
