Portugal Confirms “Festival da Canção 2025” For Eurovision 2025

Portugal confirmed its intention to take part in Eurovision 2025. The confirmation was made through an official press release made by RTP, the national broadcaster.

As always, “Festival da Canção” will be used as the selection process for Eurovision.

“Festival da Canção 2025” – Known Details

  1. This will be the 59th edition of the traditional Portuguese festival.
  2. The festival will be held in February-March 2025.
  3. The festival will feature 2 semi-finals and a gran final.
  4. 20 artists will be shortlisted to compete in the festival. The list of artists/writers will be composed from 2 different categoires:
    • Invited Composers/WritersRTP will directly invite 14 established composers/writers to submit songs for the festival. Some of them will perform the songs, while other will choose another artist to perform them.
    • Free Path – This submission window is open for any eligible Portuguese artist. 6 of them will be shortlisted to compete in the festival.
  5. 10 artists will compete in each semi-final, 6 of them will qualify from each semi-final to the final.
  6. The semi-finals results will be determined in 2 rounds:
    • First round – a 50% national jury and a 50% public vote. The 5 songs with highest combined ranking will advance for the final.
    • Second round – will be determined solely by the public vote. 1 additional song will get a ticket for the final.
  7. The submission window for the festival through the regular path opened today (14th of August 2024) and will close on the 15th of October 2024
  8. All citizens of Portuguese nationality or Portuguese residents can submit songs, including Portuguese living outside Portugal, as well as citizens of other nationalities residing in Portugal,
  9. The reception and choice of these four songs will be carried out through the provision of demos to RTP. These demos must be made available by sending an audio file directly to the email festivaldacancao@rtp.pt and accompanied by various data (specified in the regulation).
  10. Each artist/writer/composer can submit up to 2 different songs.
  11. Maximal song duration is 3 minutes.
  12. The performer must be at least 16 years old.

Iolanda represented Portugal at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Grito”.
She finished in 10th place with 152 points.

Eurovision 2025 will be held in Switzerland.
