Austrian broadcaster ORF has revealed the design concept for the Eurovision 2026 green room.
The shows will be held in the Wiener Stadthalle arena in Vienna, Austria.
A centerpiece of this year’s stage design is the Greenroom, the dedicated lounge where artists and delegations gather during the live broadcasts. For the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, this space has been reimagined as a traditional Viennese coffee house. This unique setting serves as a cultural tribute to Austria, providing a charming and authentic backdrop where artists connect, emotions run high, and the contest’s most candid moments unfold.
About The Design
Florian Wieder‘s design concept for the Greenroom of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is inspired by Viennese coffeehouse culture. This culture, which is officially recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, represents far more than the mere enjoyment of coffee. It embodies a particular way of life and a deeply rooted social tradition.
Historically, the Viennese coffeehouse was a meeting place for all of society. It was, and remains to this day, a place of exchange, openness, and democratic encounter. A space where different perspectives naturally coexist. This very welcoming cultural philosophy is now to be brought to the Eurovision Song Contest with the Greenroom at the shows in the Vienna Stadthalle.
The Greenroom will be transformed into a Viennese coffeehouse, and thus into a place of encounter, emotion, and shared experience in the heart of Europe.
ORF Program Director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz explained:
We’re not just asking ourselves whether there will be white, brown, or gray armchairs. We’re turning it into a coffee house. The atmosphere will be palpable
The Eurovision Song Contest entrants won’t have to go around the outside on their way to the stage; instead, they’ll reach the heart of the action via a walkway through the audience.
This means that the green room will be directly accessible via the main stage!
Eurovision 2026 will be held in Vienna, Austria, on May 12th, 14th, and 16th, 2026.
