Romania Won’t Participate in Eurovision 2024

On the 5th of December 2023, the EBU released the list of 37 participating countries at Eurovision 2024

Missing from the list was Romania, whose national broadcaster TVR hasn’t made a final decision.
Today (25th of January 2024) TVR released a statement regarding the Eurovision 2024

The board members of TVR held a discussion to decide whether the country should participate at Eurovision 2024. The main consideration were on the financial aspects.
13 members voted on this matter: 5 members supported participation at Eurovision 2024, 4 members opposed the participation and additional 4 abstained.

Therefore, Romania won’t join the list of participating countries at Eurovision 2024.
Based on TVR‘s statement, other project will get financial priorities like:

Last year, the participation fee for Romania was around 180,000 euros, while additional 200,00 euros were invested in the national selection, accommodation, staging and etc.

Romania at Eurovision 2024 – Recap

The EBU granted a special extension to TVR to determine Eurovision 2024 participation.

Later on, it was revealed that TVR got a special extension to determine Eurovision 2024 participation. The extended deadline was the end of January 2024, which is mainly impacted by the semi-final allocation draw (to be held on Tuesday, the 30th of January 2024). Back then, TVR was pending approval of the annual budget for 2024.
