“Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026” – Behind The Scenes

In a special tribute, DR revealed more details regarding how they shaped this year selection:

  1. The selection process this year has included several stages and has spanned over much longer time than usual.
  2. The selection is made through a music committee that works on various fronts to get as strong a lineup as possible.
  3. The general effort splits into two parts. DR has worked closely with various music records who have worked to create the strongest songs to their artsits.
  4. An ongoing process takes place in which they look at the songs and assess whether they are ready to be included in this year’s show or should wait until next year. The meaning is that songs are already on the shelf for “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2027“.
  5. Some songs have been revamped or edited several times during the process.
  6. DR puts a special attention to choose songs that have potential to work in Eurovision, and not only the local market.
  7. DR has looked for strong performers with identity, who excel vocally and have the quality to stand on big stages.

Erik Struve Hansen, the “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix” producer, commented:

It has to be a song that communicates what it wants from the first time you hear it. That demands your attention and catches you right away. The big pop songs are strong in the Grand Prix, but we are open to whether it can be one genre or another. But it has to be interesting both after one listen and after ten listens
