The Eurovision season has been officially started today together with the first artist announced for Rotterdam.
The Flemish broadcaster VTR revealed on Eén’s channel show “Vandaag” that the band Hooverphonic will represent them in the Eurovision song contest 2020 next May.
The electro-pop band Hooverphonic was founded in 1995 by Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts. Over the years the band was needed to change their lead singers a few times. the current one, Luka Cruysberghs, has joined the group in April 2018 and will complete the band’s trio for Rotterdam. Hooverphonic‘s last album was “Looking For Stars” released in 2018.
The Belgique entry for the Eurovision was confirmed to be in English and will be released in the future. the band stated they accepted the offer to go to Eurovision only when they have the perfect song for the task, and they feel like this is the one. the decision of sending Hooverphonic to Eurovision was accepted by VTR behind closed doors. the network has previously reported that 2020 will be preferred artists already familiar with the public. among the names that were rumored to represent Belgium were Stromae, Nathalia, Taminoae, and, Milow
The rumor regarding the artist’s participation in contest started a few weeks ago after the broadcast revealed that they have a preferred candidate considering to accept the offer.
