Yesterday, The Norwegian Broadcaster NRK has revealed is a press conference 9 of “Melodi Grand Prix 2020” participants: 5 automatic qualifiers and the 4 participants of semi-final 1.
“Melodi Grand Prix 2020“ will consist of 5 semi-finals and final.
In each semi-final, 4 artists will face each other in duels, until one artist will be announced as the semi-final winner.
Semi-final 1 will be held on the 11th of January 2020. It will include 4 artists from Southern Norway.
Semi-final 2 will be held on the 18th of January 2020. It will include 4 artists from Western Norway.
Semi-final 3 will be held on the 25h of January 2020. It will include 4 artists from Central Norway.
Semi-final 4 will be held on the 1st of February 2020. It will include 4 artists from Eastern Norway.
Semi-final 5 will be held on the 8th of February 2020. It will include 4 artists from Northen Norway.
The final of “Melodi Grand Prix 2020” will be held on the 15th of February 2020. It will include 5 automatic qualifiers that have been chosen by NRK and the 5 qualifiers from the semi-finals. The voting in the final will be based only on the public vote.
Semi-final 1 participants are
#1. Kim Rysstad – Rainbow
Kim Rysstad is 38 years old singer with a strong connection to Norwegian folk music. In 2019, he participated in the music show Stjernekamp and qualified for the final of the competition. In 2012, he participated in “Melodi Grand Prix 2012” where he performed “Så vidunderleg” (Eng: “So Wonderful”).
Kim was eliminated and didn’t qualified for the final of “Melodi Grand Prix 2012“.
#2. Geirmund – Come Alive
Geirmund Hansen is 31 years old singer, songwriter and vocal coach. He has graduated from the University of Agder, studying Rhythmic Music. He rose to fame in 2013, when he took part in “The Voice of Norway“.
#3. Lisa Børud – Talking About Us
Lisa was born to a musical family, and therefore she performs on stage from a young age. Through the last 12 years, she released 8 studio albums. She has graduated from the Bårdar academy in Oslo, studying Hip-Hop and Dance. She participated in the music show Stjernekamp. Lisa isn’t stranger to the Eurovision world, in 2018 she was one of the backing vocalists and dancers of Norway entry in Eurovision 2018 (Alexander Rybak – “That’s How You Write a Song”).
#4. Raylee – Wild
Raylee is 22 years old singer and dancer. She released her first song at the age of 11. In 2014, she participated in the music show Stjernekamp. In 2017 she released the first English song that was written by herself “Love Me”. In 2015, she participated in “Melodi Grand Prix 2015” and performed “Louder” but she didn’t qualified for the final.
The 5 automatic qualifiers are:
#1. Sondrey – Take My Time
Sondre Mulongo Nystrøm is 25 years old sprinter and Soul and R&B singer. In 2016, he had performed in the show The Stream and afterward got a record contract. In 2019, he took part in the music show Stjernekamp, where he finished in 3rd place.
#2. Didrik Solli-Tangen & Emil Solli-Tangen – Out of Air
Didrik and Emil are brothers. They work together for years and especially perform together in concerts and summer shows.
Didrik is 32 years old, graduated from the Barratt Due Music Conservatory as a classical singer in 2010. In 2010, he participated in “Melodi Grand Prix” and won. thereafter, he represents Norway in Eurovision 2010 with the song “My Heart is Yours”. Didrik finished in 20th place in the grand final.
Emil is 28 years old. At the age of 19, he started the program for performing singers in the Barratt-Due Music Conservatory in Oslo. At the age of 21, he started studying Opera. In 2013 he participated in “Melodi Grand Prix 2013” with the metal band Gromth. They performed “Alone” and qualified for the final, but didn’t reach the top final.
#3. Ulrikke Brandstorp – Attention
Ulrikke Brandstorp is 24 years old. She rose to fame in 2018, when she ended as a runner-up in the music show Stjernekamp. In 2017, she participated in “Melodi Grand Prix 2017” and qualified for the gold-final with the song “Places“.
Nowadays, she plays Liesl in the musical “Sound of Music”.
#4. Akuvi – Som du er (Eng: “As You Are”)
Beatrice Akuvi Hosen Kumordzie is 25 years old singer and songwriter. She was born into a musical family. Her sister, Anna Lisa took part in “Melodi Grand Prix 2019” and qualified for the gold-final. Akuvi’s main Genres are traditionally South African Gospel, West African afro-Pop and American Hip-Hop and R&B.
#5. Tone Damli – Hurts Sometimes
Tone Damli is 31 years old singer. She rose to fame in 2005 when she was only 16 years old and participated in “The Norwegian Idol”. She has released so far 5 studio albums that were a huge success in Norway. In 2009, she participated in “Melodi Grand Prix 2009” and performed “Butterflies“. She finished as a runner-up to Alexander Rybak who later won Eurovision 2009.
