Italy Confirms Participation at Eurovision 2021

A few weeks after Italian broadcaster RAI revealed the dates for the festival “Sanremo 2021“, it is now confirmed that Italy will take part in Eurovision 2021.

Antonio Diodato (also known as Diodato) should have represented Italy at Eurovision 2020 with the song “Fai Rumore“, after he won the “Sanremo 2020” festival

The song has never been performed live on the Eurovision stage, due to the corona virus.

The “Sanremo” festival is a traditional Italian music festival that is being held every year in February.
Since Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, it has been used as a mechanism for selecting Italy’s entry to Eurovision (except 2014).

Following the existence of Covid-19 pandemic, “Sanremo 2021” festival was postponed to the first week of March: Starting on the 2nd of March 2020 and ending on the 6th of March 2020.

The mechanism for Eurovision 2021 remains uncertain. It is possible that the artist and the song for Eurovision 2021 will be selected via the “Sanremo 2021” festival. However, another option can be that Italy will internally select an artist, in particular Diodato .

The traditional deadline for submitting an entry for Eurovision is usually before the 15th of March. Therefore, If Italy chose the song via “Sanremo 2021” festival, they won’t have a lot of time for a revamp and editing the entry.
