Vasil is set to represent North Macedonia at Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with song ”Here I Stand”. Song and music video received negative comments that the original music video they showed fragments that resembled with colours of Bulgarian flag. The original music video was taken down, re-edited and re-uploaded but the heat of situation didn’t died down.
Vasil Garvanliev is musician from North Macedonia who also helds a Bulgarian citizenship, her grandmother is from a territory of modern Bulgaria and its legal and accepted in North Macedonia. Due to political situation between two countries Vasil’s second nationality sadly became a issue. Vasil posted a message on his Facebook profile and this is he what he said:
”I am a music ambassador, and in music there is no religion, politics, orientation, race or color. I had absolutely no intentions to hurt anybody. Quite the opposite! I am so proud of this project which not only embodies me, but my country and culture – musicians and featured artists in the gallery. I do not apologize for being me. I never will – I didn’t have a choice in that. However, if I hurt ANYBODY in ANY WAY, from the bottom of my heart … I am sorry. Forgive me.”
