Eurovision 2022: Malta Announces National Selection, as Submission Window Is Open

As we have reported before, Malta will use the mechanism of national selection for Eurovision 2022.
In the years 2019 – 2020, Malta used “X – Factor Malta” as artist selection, while the song was chosen internally.
In the years 2011 – 2015, 2017, and 2018, the country used national selection.
While in 2016, the artist was chosen through a national selection.

After 3 years of absence, we are going back to the form of national selection!
The news came public today.

Song Submission

TVM (Maltese broadcaster) opened the submission period today (15th of October 2021).
The submission window will close 2 months from now: the 15th of December 2021.

National Selection Format

A special committee, assigned by TVM, will reduce the list of submitted songs.
The national selection will include 2 shows.
Semi-final: 22 songs will qualify for the televised semi-final. Only 16 of them will qualify for the final.
Grand Final – 16 will be included in the line-up, the winner will represent Malta at Eurovision 2022.
