Despite The Current Situation, Ukraine Will Participate at Eurovision 2022

According to the Italian broadcaster RAI, we can expect Ukraine to participate at Eurovision 2022. Despite the concerning events, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine‘s territory, Ukraine is determined to participate.

Kalush Orchestra will represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2022 with the song “Stefania

The information was given during the traditional annual Head of Delegations meeting, ahead of Eurovision events.

Simona Martorelli, one of the Eurovision 2022 executive producers announced:

The Ukrainian delegation has confirmed its presence and has so far met all deadlines incredibly. They are also gearing up to make a backup video of the performance, which is asked of all delegations in case of problems and the delegation or part of the delegation could not show up in Turin. They are having some difficulties but they are trying to make it happen, not in Kyiv but in another city more on the border.

Following this announcement, we can infer that each country will be asked to supply a back-up live on tape version of their Eurovision 2022 song.
This will be used in cases where a delegation won’t be able to attend the events in Turin.
Such cases can happen following the Covid pandemic or complicated situations like the war happening nowadays.
In particular, Ukraine will be able to use the live on tape version, if the delegation won’t be able to fly to Italy.
Some countries have already recorded their back-up performance, like: Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia

Claudio Fasulo, deputy director of Rai1 and one of the Eurovision 2022 executive producers added:

“The themes of peace will be at the center of this edition of Eurovision. We have three presenters who fill us with pride – Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika – who are perfectly complementary and will bring a lot of themselves into the construction of the show. We want to bring important content to the event, which speaks of peace and is appropriate for this delicate moment”

Ukraine will compete in the first half of semi-final 1 which will be held on the 10th of May 2022.
If Ukraine qualifies, the country will participate in the grand final on the 14th of May 2022
