Nicole Van Palm or also known as Nicole Josy, was born on 21st October 1946 in Wemmel, Belgium.
Nicole Josy tried to represent the nation as a solo artist in 1968 and 1970, but she was unsuccessful.
Nicole and Hugo met in 1970, and soon after, they formed a singing duo and soon became a couple.
In 1971 they took in Belgium’s national selection ”Canzonissima 1971” for the Eurovision Song Contest.
They sang ” Goeie morgen, morgen konnten” and they clearly won the the national selection agaisnt 11 acts.
However, as Nicole contracted jaundice and was unable to represent the nation, so they were replaced by Jacques Raymond and Lily Castel.
The song ”Goeie morgen, morgen konnten” became a huge hit and went on to become evergreen.
In the same year, Nicole & Hugo got married in Wemmel, Belgium.
In 1973 they again participated in Belgium’s national selection ”Eurosong” with the songs ”Baby Baby” and ” Jij en ik en wij”.
”Baby Baby” took first place and represented the nation in Eurovision 1973. Sadly they were unsuccessful and came in last place just with 58 points.
They were more successful at Worlds Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1974 with the song ” Met de zomer mee”.They came in 2nd place and received the Outstanding Composition Award.
Nicole & Hugo toured the world for almost ten years until they started singing on cruise ships.
On 20th October 1990, they received an award from SABAM for their special services to Belgian show business.
In 2004 once again, the couple tried to represent Belgium and took part in ”Eurosong” with the song ” Love is all around”.
They came 2nd place in the first semi-final and could not qualify for the grand final.
In 2005 their entry from 1973 was recorded several times as a running gag in the Eurovision Song Contest Gala Congratulations. Nicole & Hugo also performed live at the end of the show.
Nicole & Hugo have released many records and CDs over the years, including some in German-speaking countries. The latest and final single they released was in 2008 with the song ” Pastorale”.
Soon after, Nicole Josey was battling cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Nicole Josy died after suffering a fall in her house.
