Eurovision 2024: Format Changes to Be Implemented in Malmö, As Sweden’s Final Position Has Been Decided

As the line-up of Eurovision 2024 class has almost been fully revealed, the EBU and Swedish broadcaster SVT are ready to modify the format of the upcoming contest is May 2024.

On the 30th of January 2024, SVT held the semi-final allocation draw, based on voting pots.
The 31 countries that will participate in the semi-final were allocated to one of 2 semi-finals, alongside the half of the show where they will perform:

In addition, the host country (Sweden) and the big 5 countries (Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the UK) have got an allocation to one of the 2 semi-final, where they will vote and broadcast.

Wind of Change For Malmö 2024

During the annual delegation meeting that has been held today, the following changes have been annocued:

  1. The big 5 and the host country Sweden will fully perform in the semi-finals. They vote face any voting round, as their spot in the final is secured. However, they will have the chance to shine one more time before the grand final. This will let them to get better exposure. The acts will be allocated an interval acts between the semi-final countries. In previous years, the public had the possibility to watch a short video snippet from their rehearsals.
    • Sweden, Germany and the UK will perform in semi-final 1.
    • Italy, France and Spain will perform in semi-final 2.
  2. The voting period will be longer that usual:
    • In the final, voters from participating countries will be able to vote before the first song!
    • Voters from the Rest Of The World (non-participating countries, like: USA, India, Hungary and etc.) will have around 24 hours to vote for each live-show. Their voting period will commence after the second dress rehearsal of each show
  3. As in 2023, the national jury will vote only in the final and their point will determined 49.33% of the vote. The rest of the points will comes from the public from the 37 participating countries and the rest of the world.
  4. An additional change is about to be announced in the near time.

As every year, the head of delegation meeting is also the time when the host country (Sweden this time) drawn its location in the final.


This year Sweden will be the country to open the grand final, as it was drawn to perform as song number 1:


Eurovision 2024 will be held in Malmö, Sweden.
The semi-finals will be held on the 7th and 9th of May 2024, and the grand final will be held on the 11th of May 2024
