Italy: First Details Regarding “Festival di Sanremo 2025” Format

Amadeus, who was the artistic director and host of “Sanreno” festival between 2020 and 2024, will no longer lead “Sanremo” in 2025.
Italian broadcaster Rai has appointed Carlo Conti to replace him.
Carlo Conti led the festival between 2015 and 2017.

Right now, Italy still hasn’t approved its participation in Eurovision 2025, but it is likely that “Sanremo” will be used as a selection process.

Conti gave an interview during TG1’s “Mattina Estate“,hosted by Giorgia Cardinaletti.
He revealed some planned changes to the festival’s format:

  1. For the first time since 2018, the newcomers participants and the established participants will compete in 2 different paths. The actual impact is still unknown, but it is possible that only the established artists will have the right to represent Italy in Eurovision.
  2. The winner of the newcomers will probably be announced during the covers night.
  3. He will consider shortening the duration of each show.
  4. There will be no song elimination before the final.
  5. The focus will be on current popular music in Italy.

For now, the estimated format will be as follows:

  1. Night 1: All participants will perform their songs. At the end of the night, the top 5 will be announced in a random order.
  2. Night 2: Half of the participants will perform their songs, the top 5 will be announced in a random order.
  3. Night 3: The same as night 2, with the other half
  4. Night 4: The artists will perform covers and/or duets. The winner of the night will be announced, but the results won’t impact the festival’s final results.
  5. Night 5: All participants will perform their songs. Top 5 artists (based on the combined ranking of nights 1-3 and night 5, based on jury and the public) will advance to the super final. The winner will be determined by a combination of jury and public votes.

He plans to focus on listening sessions between August and September.
