First Details About “Sanremo 2021” Festival

The music festival is one of the traditional music festivals worldwide which its 70th edition was held last tear which tells us that the festival is even “older” than the Eurovision Song Contest.
The festival is being held in Ariston Theatre which is located in the city of San Remo.

Italian media have reported that “Sanremo 2021″ festival will be held later than usual. Generally, the festival is being held at the first week of February. However, in 2021 it planned to be aired at the end of February 2020 or even in the beginning of March 2020.

The new dates were confirmed by the Italian broadcaster RAI in the process of planning the future schedule of the Italian channel.
The reason for the postponing is the implications of the corona virus which took a lot of victims in Italy.

Although the festival is being used as the common mechanism for selecting the Italian act for Eurovision, it wasn’t the exclusive way. For example, in 2014 the singer Emma was internally selected by the broadcaster.

Italy should have been represented by the singer Diodato at Eurovision 2020 with the song “Fai Rumore“:

It is still unknown whether Italy will choose “Sanremo 2021” as the mechanism of selecting a song and an artist for Eurovision 2021.

We have to recall that the EBU‘s deadline for submitting a song is usually on the beginning of March.
Therefore, one of the following options will be fulfilled:

# 1. Italy will held the festival without any connection to Eurovision 2020 itself and may select an artist (and a song) internally. In particular, Diodato may be selected internally for Eurovision 2021.

#2. Italy will held the festival a few days before the EBU‘s deadine, promising the winning act can be submitted in the suitable time.

#3. The EBU will be more flexible with the deadline, allowing the “Sanremo” dates to be later than deadline or in parallel.

However, one thing is already officially confirmed is that the Italian TV and Radio presenter Amedeo Sebastiani will be one of hosts of the festival second year in a row.

The Italian presenter has already posted an image on Instagram showing the preparations toward “Sanremo 2021“:

I live in Israel and watch Eurovision since the early 2000s. I work as a mathematician but have a big interest in singing, music, and writing
