The Eurovision 2021 season has started yesterday and Finland has some news to share with us.
As we all remember, Finland should have been represented by Aksel Kankaanranta at Eurovision 2020, after he had won the national final for Eurovision 2020: “UMK 2020”

However, the Finnish broadcaster has decided to hold a new national selection for Eurovision 2021.
The submission period for Eurovision 2021 has been opened on September 1, 2020. It will end on Monday the 7th of September.
Competitors will be selected by an expert panel of music professionals, which will continue to be chaired by YleX’s music manager Tapio Hakanen.
The chosen finalists will be revealed in January 2021. The amount of finalists is still to be decided. However, we can except 6-12 competitors. Finland will hold a national final with several artists, in contrast to “UMK” in the years 2018-2019.
The national final will be held on the 20th of February 2021. It will be held at Tampere Mediapolis’ TV studios,and will be aired live on Yle TV1 and Yle Arena. The show would probably not include crowd.

However the main rules are:
1. Each singer can submit mo more than 3 songs
2. Lyricists and composers can submit an unlimited amount of songs.
3. At lest one of the composers/ writers/ singers of any song must have a Finish citizenship.
