Hi Kamela, thank you for accepting our invitation and welcome to ESCBEAT

Kamela: “Hi Doron, thank you for the invitation, it’s a pleasure being here”

What was your first reaction after your song has been accepted for FIK 59?

Of course I was very happy. My song was accepted to one of the most important song competitions in Albania. In a year like that, performing on a stage is amazing.

What can you tell us about the message behind the song “Kujtimet s’kanë formë“?

Kujtumet s’kane forme” means “Shapeless memories”.
It’s a break-up song, that gives hope to keep going. The chorus says:
“I’m gonna live free
Framing no memories
New beginnings, no I won’t give up
My life ain’t yours
To myself, I owe much more”

How was the song born? Did the lyrics or the melody come first?

This one started with the melody first. It came to me in one of those Blue days, then I had a conversation with Megi Hasani who wrote these beautiful lyrics.

This year, you compete with a totally different song from your previous participation. What’s the reason for that?

There is no specific reason. Being part of this kind of competitions always makes me challenge myself, be bold, be different, and improve myself in every way that I can.

How will you estimate your chances of winning this year?

Well, of course, it will be a great pleasure if I get to win but, that’s not my main goal.
We had a long, difficult and strange year, so I will try to enjoy every minute of me being on stage because (and here I speak for a lot of artists) it is one of the purposes of our existence and I believe that everyone has missed being on one. I will cherish every moment during those few minutes.
My main goal is for my song to be heard and liked

In case you win, will the song be kept in Albanian language for Eurovision?

I haven’t thought about that yet, because we have “Festivali I kenges” ahead.

Your first participation in “Festivali I kenges” was in its 48th edition. How have you been changed as artists since then?

Well, I’m almost 10 years older now. Therefore, I’m less frightened of the big stage. My main goal is enjoying and I don’t think anymore about that others will think. In “Festivali I kenges 48“, I wasn’t the composer behind the song. So now, I participate as a singer and a composer.

Along the years, you’ve participated in several music festivals. Which one is your favorite and why?

Of course one of my favorites is “Festivali I këngës”. The main reason for that is the excellent orchestra that we usually have (however not this year, because of the Corona virus).
In general, I love competitions as they give us the opportunity to improve ourselves as competitors.

Do you plan releasing a new album in the near future?

I started working on my album in February. Then Covid – 19 lockdown came along with a lot of issues as we all know, so the work on my album got postponed. After “Festivali I kenges 59“, I’m closing myself up in the studio to finish what I started

What’s your favorite Albanian‘s song from Eurovision?

There are a few actually. I Loved Rona’s “Suus” (2012), Eugent’s “Mall” (2018), Eneda’s “Fairytale” (2016).
I’ve also a warm place in my heart for Anjeza Shahini who was the first singer that represented Albania at Eurovision

This year, FIK will be held outside, how will it affect your staging and performance?

Since it is going to be in the middle of December, nobody will use body painting this year.
I want to keep it a surprise, but it is going to be simple and magical at the same time.

What’s your message to your fans and ESCBEAT readers?

We are living in strange times. Check on your friends, give them a call. It doesn’t cost anything to you. Try to stay positive and try to stay mentally sane ☺ Eventually we should try to enjoy the holidays and all this nightmare will come to an end. Love, love, love and only love!

We wish Kamela good luck in “Festivali I kenges 59” and happy to have her as one of the contenders for Albania at Eurovision 2021
