Bulgaria: Get To Know Victoria’s 6 Potential Eurovision 2021 Songs

Victoria Georgieva has been internally selected by Bulgarian broadcaster BNT to represent Bulgaria at Eurovision 2021.

But before that. the singer had been internally selected to represent her home country at Eurovision 2020 (that has since been cancelled) with the song “Tears Getting Sober.”

Victoria’s song for Eurovision 2021 will be chosen from her upcoming EP “A Little Dramatic”.

The list of potential songs for Eurovision 2021 includes 6 songs. The majority of them (5 out of 6) have been released this week.

#1. Ugly Cry

The song was written and produced by Victoria Georgieva and Billen Ted, with production support from Martin Masarov. It was released on the 20th of November 2020.
One can observe that the song is too long (more than the allowed 3 minutes), so the song will be shortened if it is the chosen one for Eurovision 2021

Ugly Cry” shows a different side to Victoria: a heavier, hard-hitting beat underlies tense strings as Victoria examines the difference between the public and private persona, imploring the listener to love her “better side.” Inspired by the difference in the way she was treated before and after Eurovision’s success.

Victoria’s comment about the song:

“Lyrically “my message with “Ugly Cry” is simple – everyone deserves respect”.

#2. “Imaginary Friend”

Victoria played a key role in the creative journey. “Imaginary Friend” is written by Victoria, Cornelia Wiebols, and Irma Eriksson Wadström. It was produced by Cornelia Wiebols and Oliver Björkvall.

The singer-songwriter says the track sets the mood for the entire mini-album. The song was released on the 14th of February 2021 (aka Valentines day)
The chosen release date for the lyrics video is no coincidence. “Imaginary Friend” is not a typical love story, focusing on how unrequited love makes you feel.

Victoria‘s comment on the song:

“Everyone can relate to this story because we all experience something like this. Loving someone with all your heart does not always mean they will love you back. Sometimes the love is unrequited and you just have to move on with your life. The process of moving forward will be told by another song from the album. The stories of “a little dramatic” are well connected and I am sure when we present all the songs the pieces of the puzzle will come together.

#3. “Dive into Unknown”

The song is written by Borislav Milanov and Lucas Oscar from Symphonix International alongside Victoria. This is the same team who wrote “Tears Getting Sober”, Bulgaria’s 2020 Eurovision entry Pauline Skött, also known as Skott, and Peter St James were also part of the songwriting team behind “Dive into Unknown”. It was released on the 15th of February 2021

The message of Victoria’s “Dive into Unknown”: To dive into the unknown and to take a risk even though you are not sure where the path will lead you.

Victoria’s comment about the song:

“The song was inspired by the beauty and calm of the sea. Together with Borislav and Lucas, we were looking for inspiration by listening to the sounds of the sea and staring at it from the distance. Then, Lucas played the first piano chords of the song and it was a magical moment. I think we created a really beautiful song”

#4. Phantom Pain

The song was released on the 16th of February 2021.
Phantom Pain” was written by Victoria and the Swedish songwriters and music producers Helena Larsson, and Oliver Björkvall. The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra has also been involved in the final arrangement of the song.

Victoria‘s comment on the song:

“The song is part of the final phase of “a little dramatic” and it tells a painful story. This fatal tale could be too much for some people, but when we release “The Funeral Song” tomorrow, it will all make sense. Both songs are connected and are quite different from “Imaginary Friend” and “Dive into Unknown”. I can say “Phantom Pain” is one of my favorite songs from my first EP.“

#5. “The Funeral Song

The song was released on the 17th of February 2021.
The song is written by Victoria, Helena Larsson, Chris Samuels, Nellie Fors, and Oliver Björkvall.
In “The Funeral Song”, Victoria brings attention to the importance of being honest and staying true to yourself.

“The Funeral Song” is a statement – if you can’t love yourself, how are you going to love somebody else? The song also looks at another important topic – how honest are the people around us? The final track from “a little dramatic” is a message from VICTORIA to Victoria.

The singer said about the song:

“What happens when we lose everything? What should we appreciate most while we are here on Earth? With this song I want to tell people that they should take care and live in the moment. We all need to love and cherish ourselves.”

#6. “Growing Up Is Getting Old”

The song was released today: 18th of February 2021
It was written by the Victoria and the Swedish songwriters and music producers Maya Nalani, Helena Larsson, and Oliver Björkvall.
Victoria her team decided to introduce “Growing Up Is Getting Old” last because of the positive message the song brings.

The singer commented on the song:

“Growing Up is Getting Old” is really dear and personal to me. You can grow in many different ways. Sometimes going back to your roots, to the place you feel safe and the people you love, helps you find your purpose on Earth. This is the case for me. When I listen to the song I think of my mother, my father, my sister, my friends. All the people that mean the world to me.”
This is one of the first songs I wrote back in 2019 and it all started with the idea I had for the phrase “growing up is getting old”. Together with Maya, Helena and Oliver, we started to build around it and I believe we created something beautiful. The live instrumentation of “Growing Up is Getting Old” makes the song very special and I hope people will also fall in love with the song.”
