As we have reported during the rehearsals, The EBU and the Italian broadcaster Rai are facing technical problem with the kinetic sun structure.
So what’s this sun about?
The sun a large solar construction, made of metal. It consists of 7 separate discs that should be able to rotate independently of each other. This what should have made the sun structure be more dynamic with a lot of staging potential for the different countries.
The sun has 2 sides: one with an LED screen and one with a lot of lamps. The LED side should be capable to show graphics.

The different national broadcasters have planned their staging concept for months, based on this year’s design.
However, at the very last minute, it has been clarified that the sun won’t rotate.
Therefore, some countries have to adapt the new situation and change their staging plans.
Between these countries, we can count Lithuania and Denmark.
Lithuania had to change its staging significantly.

Birgitte Næss-Schmidt, who is in charge of the Danish performance, reacted:
We were told that the stage did not work, three days before our first rehearsal. Fortunately, we had chosen not to use the turntable itself in advance, because we did not think it worked optimally, so it has been fairly simple for us to adapt our performance.
The Italians are working hard to make the show still super nice, and I think the Danish performance has ended really well.

Time To Make Decisions
Based on the current situation, the EBU has decided that the sun will be in the same position during all the 40 performances.
In fact, even if the sun will be fixed, all the countries won’t have permission to use its rotation during the first rehearsals.
