On the 15th of September 2022, Slovenian broadcaster RTV SLO confirmed participation at Eurovision 2023
However, according to the Slovenian website evrovizija, it seems that the confirmation was a big issue this year.
Slovenia had considered withdrawing from Eurovision 2023 but eventually decided to compete at Eurovision 2023 in the United Kingdom.
Alenka Gotar, who represented Slovenia at Eurovision 2007 with the song “Cvet Z Juga“, and is currently the president of the Program Council of RTVSLO reacted:
Great news! In the spring, the management of RTV and advisors thought about not going to Eurosong anymore! I am happy that the opinion of the Committee for Music of the Program Council of RTV, whose chair I am, was taken into account, that it is important for Slovenian music and musicians that new music is being made, that can be shown abroad as well. Thanks also to the entire RTV program world, left and right saints that supported me/us! No voice against it!!! Long live music!
In this phase, not much is known about the method of selecting an artist and a song for Eurovision 2023.
Traditionally, Slovenia has used the mechanism of “EMA” (with the extension of the young artist’s path – “EMA Freš” in 2020 and 2022).
However, Slovenia was also chosen internally on several occasions in 2013 and 2021.
Cancellation of the “EMA” could also help the broadcast by cutting costs for Eurovision 2023.
We would like to remind you that in the previous year, the preparation for “EMA Freš” has begun in an early stage.
Can we infer that “EMA Freš” won’t be part of the selection process for Eurovision 2023?
LPS represented Slovenia at Eurovision 2022 with the song “Disko“.
They finished in 17th place (last place) in semi-final 1.
Who would you like to see representing Slovenia at Eurovision 2023?
