With the close of the submission window for Eurovision 2023, Ukrainian broadcaster Suspline revealed some more details about the national selection for Eurovision 2023 – “Vidbir 2023”.

The national broadcaster received 384 applications from 299 participants.
This means that several artists have submitted at least 2 songs.
Ukraine is going through difficult days, due to war with Russia that started at the end of February 2022. In May 2022,Ukraine won Eurovision 2022, but unfortunately isn’t able to host the contest due to the war.
Dmytro Shurov (Pianoboy), the musical producer, reacted:
“Another anxious morning across the country. Drones, missiles, arrivals, news from the front, volunteer meetings, exchange of prisoners, concerts in bomb shelters, heroism and betrayal, euphoria and suffering – in such a Ukraine, this selection for Eurovision 2023 takes place, which will be held in Liverpool instead of Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa or Dnipro. Many musicians are at an emotional low point, many are abroad, some are volunteering, some are fighting. And despite everything, at the time of the end of the reception we had more than 300 submitted songs”

According to him, not all the songs are with sharp and final production.
But what standouts is the fact that many of the songs don’t come from established artists.
In addition, some of the songs talk about war consequences, call for peace, loss of people and more:
Yes, many of them are in a demo state, many are just the cry of the soul of people who do not even plan to be artists. Stories about life in bomb shelters, emigration, emptiness from the loss of relatives, faith in our Armed Forces. And yet, this is a vivid example of our people’s attitude towards constructiveness and hope. Thank you all for your applications
