Sweden: Get To Know “Melodifestivalen 2023” Heat 1+2 Participants

One of the most exciting moments of the season here – the reveal of “Melodifestivalen” participants.
As last year, the participants will be revealed in 2 different parts.
Note: The songs won’t be available before the show, however short snippets will be released before each heat.

Heat 1Saturday 4th of February 2023

#1. Victor Crone – Diamonds

Written by: David Lindgren Zacharias, Peter Kvint, Victor Crone

Victor Crone is expected to return for “Melodifestivalen” this year.
He made his debut in 2015 in collaboration with Behrang Miri on the song “Det Rår Vi Inte För“. They finished 4th in semi-final 1 and didn’t get a final ticket for the “second chance“.

In 2019, he particiapted in the Estonian selection for Eurovision 2019 – “Eesti Laul 2019“.
Victor performed the song “Strom” and won the selection.
He represented Estonia at Eurovision 2019 and finished 20th in the final

In 2020, he returned to “Melodifestivalen 2020” with the song “Troubled Waters” and finished 9th in the final:

#2. Rejhan – Haunted

Written by: Albin Johnsén, Mattias Andréasson, Pontus Söderman, Tilde RONIA Wrigsell

16 years old Rejhan Bellani will also make his “Melodifestivalen” debut.
He lives in Sweden, but has roots in Kosovo.
Therefore, he speaks and sings in Albanian, Bosnian, English and Swedish.
He made his first public appearance in the “Talang 2021“.

#3. Loulou LaMotte – Inge Sorger

Loulou LaMotte isn’t a stranger to “Melodifestivalen” either.
She is a part of “The Mamas”.
In 2019, they featured in John Lundvik‘s performance for “Too Late for Love”.
In 2020, the Mamas won “Melodifestivalen 2020” with the song “Move”

In 2021, they competed with the song “In The Middle” and ended in the 3rd place in the final:

#4.Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos – Länge Leve Livet (Eng: Long Live Life)

Written by: Emil Vaker, Henric Pierroff, Kalle Rydberg

The duo, Eva Rydberg (79 years old) and Ewa Roos (73 years old) will make a “Melodifestivalen” return.
They participated in “Melodifestivalen 2021″ with an entertaining song “Rena rama ding dong”

#5. Elov & Beny – Raggen Går

Written by: Johan Werner, Kristian Wejshag, Mattias Elovsson, Oscar Kilenius, Tim Larsson

The duo, consisting of Mattias Elovsson and Oscar Kilenius, formed in 2008.
They conquered the Swedish charts and Tik-Tok with hits like ” BUBBEL PÅ BALKONGEN”:

The duo have peaked at number 2 in the Swedish and Norwegian charts.
SVT has shown an interest in the duo, due to their unique music style (raggar pop) which can barely be seen in “Melodifestivalen”.

#6. Tone Sekelius – Rhythm Of My Show

Written by: Anderz Wrethov, Dino Medanhodzic, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Tone Sekelius

Tone Sekelius is a 25 year-old Swedish social media influencer and singer.
In 2021, she came out as transgender.
Tone participated in “Melodifestivalen 2022″ for the first time.
Tone qualified for the final, after getting a second chance in the semi-final.
In the end, the song “My Way” ended in 5th place in the final:

#7. Jon Henrik Fjällgren, Arc North feat. Adam Woods Where You Are (Sávečan)

Written by: Arc North, Calle Hellberg, Jon Henrik Fjällgren, Joy Deb, Oliver Belvelin, Richard Lästh, Tobias Lundgren, William Segerdahl

Jon Henrik Mario Fjällgren is a 35 year old Swedish-Sami singer and jojkare, who was born in Colombia.
Jon rose to fame after he won the talent show “Talang Sverige 2014” (Eng: Sweden’s Got Talent).

He has participated in “Melodifestivalen” 3 times:

In 2015, he performed the song “Jag Är Fri” and finished 2nd in the final:

In 2017, he collaborated with Aninia on the song “En värld full av strider”. They finished 3rd in the final:

In 2019, he ended 4th in the final with the song “Norrsken”


Arc North and Adam Woods will make their debut in “Melodifestivalen“.
Oscar Christiansson is the musician standing behind the stage name Arc North.
 In the face of his growing success with 700 million streams under his belt, as well as a feature in an award-winning film production with his song “Together Now”, Arc North became very popular.

Adam Woods is a producer, singer and songwriter.
He has released 2 albums so far, with over 6 million Spotify streams.

Heat 2 – Saturday, 11th of February 2023

#1. Wiktoria – “All My Life” (Where Have You Been)

Written by: Herman Gardarfve, Melanie Wehbe, Patrik Jean, Wiktoria Johansson

Wiktoria Johansson is 25 years old.
So far, she has participated 3 times in the “Melodifestivalen

In 2016, she finished in 4th place in the final, with “Save Me


In 2017, she participated with “As I Lay Down” and ended in 6th place in the final:

In 2019, she performed “Not With Me” and ended 6th in the final:

#2. Eden – “Comfortable”

Written by: Benjamin Rosenbohm, Eden Alm, Emil Adler Lei, Julie Aagaard

Eden Aim is a 22 year old rising star. She made her big success via Tik-Tok.
This will be her first “Melodifestivalen” participation.
Eden creates music for Tik-Tok, but also shares episodes of her life with her partner Sara Songbird..

#3. Uje Brandelius – “Grytan” (Eng: Stew)

Written by: Uje Brandelius

Uje Brandelius is a 51 year old Swedish singer, actor and musician.
 Brandelius was a journalist at “Arbetarbladet” and a presenter at Sveriges Radio P3, SVT.
In 2015, Uje released his solo album “Spring, Uje, Spring“.
In 2018, he published his first children’s book.

Uje describes his song as “a story about cooking, mood swings and conflict management. But mostly it’s ‘a song about love”.

#4. Theoz – “Mer Av Dig”

Written by: Axel Schylström, Jakob Redtzer, Peter Boström, Thomas G:son

Theoz is a 17 years old Swedish Tik-Tok star. In 2022, he participated in “Melodifestivalen” with the song “Som du vill“. He finished 4th in heat 1, and made his way to the final via the semi-final (second chance round). He finished 7th in the final:

#5. Maria Sur – “Never Give Up”

Written by: Anderz Wrethov, Laurell Barker

Maria Sur is a 17 year-old Ukrainian refugee who moved (together with her mother) to Sweden.
It will be her debut in “Melodifestivalen“.
Before the Russia-Ukraine war, she participated in “The Voice of Ukraine“, in order to make her first steps in the Ukrainian music industry.
Sarah Dawn Finer, a former “Melodifestivalen” participant, helped her make her first public appearance at a Swedish gala for Ukraine.
Following her first performance, she signed with a Swedish record label and released her first single:

#6. Tennessee Tears – “Now I Know”

Written by: Anderz Wrethov, Jonas Hermansson, Thomas Stengaard, Tilda Feuk

The duo, consisting of Jonas Hermansson and Tilda Feuk, mainly create country music.
They recorded most of their music in the USA.
However, they recently signed a contract with a Swedish label and were mentored by the Eurovision 1998 act – Jill Johnson

#7. Panetoz – “On My Way”

Written by: Anders Wigelius, Daniel Nzinga, Jimmy Jansson, Nebeyu Baheru, Njol Badjie, Pa Modou Badjie, Robert Norberg

The current band line-up includes: Pa Modou Badjie, Nebeyu Baheru, Johan Hirvi, Njol Ismail Badjie and Daniel Nzinga.
Panetoz band will return for the 3rd time to “Melodifestivalen”.
They broke through in 2012 with the song “Dansa pausa”.
In 2014, they competed in “Melodifestivalen 2014″ with “Efter Solsken” and finished 9th in the final:

Melodifestivalen 2023″ – Known Details

  1. Melodifestivalen 2023” dates and locations are:
    • Heat 1 – 4th of February 2023, will be held in Gothenburg.
    • Heat 2 – 11th of February 2023, will be held in Linköping.
    • Heat 3 – 18th of February 2023, will be held in Lidköping.
    • Heat 4 – 25th of February 2023, will be held in Malmö.
    • Semi-Final (Second Chance) – 4th of March 2023, will be held in Örnsköldsvik.
    • The Grand Final – 11th of March 2023, will be held in Stockholm
  2. 28 songs will be part of the line-up, and 7 songs will be performed in each heat.
  3. 2 artists will qualify directly from each heat for the final
  4. The 8 artists who will end up in 3rd and 4th place in the heats will compete in the semi-final. 4 of them will qualify for the final.
  5. Therefore, 12 artists will compete in the final.
  6. The results in the grand final will be determined by a combination of 50% public vote and 50% international jury.
