Greece: Get To Know The 7 Finalists For Eurovision 2023

ERT holds an internal selection for Eurovision 2023.
106 songs were submitted this year.
In the first phase, a professional committee listened to the songs and shoetlisted 7 of them.

According to EurovisionFun, we can reveal the identity of the 7 finalists and tell a little bit more about them as well as their song titles:

#1. Leon of Athens – Somewhere to Go

Leon of Athens was on ESCBEAT’s wishlist for Greece at Eurovision 2023.
In 2019, he was one of the composers of the Greek song for Eurovision 2019 – “Better Love” that was performed by Katerine Duska.
Leon of Athens (real name Leon Veremis) is a 35 year-old Greek singer-songwriter.
He was born in London and grew up in Athens.
For his 2023 submission, he collaborated with the Greek dream team (Dimitris Kontopoulos as one of the composers) and Scottish musician David Sneedon (who has worked in the past with Lana Del Rey, One Direction and Hurts.
The song is upbeat dance pop with influences of the 1980’s music. The lyrics are in English.

#2. Antonia Kaouri & Maria Maragkou – Shout Out! 

Antonia is “The Voice of Greece” alumni. She submitted 2 songs for selection, one as a solo performer and the second as a collaboration with Maria Maragkou.
Maria Maragkou is an actress and a singer, who has mainly released covers.

#3. Konstantina Iosifidou – We are Young

Konstantina Iosifidou became known after participating in “The Voice of Greece 2018“.
She is a 22 year-old singer-songwriter. For the internal selection, she submitted a pop rock song with English lyrics.

#4.Klavdia – Holy Water

Klavdia is a 20 year-old Greek singer.
She rose to fame in 2018, following her participation in “The Voice of Greece,” where she was mentored by Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou.
Earlier this year, she released her debut album – “Lonely Heart“.
She usually works with the established group ARCADE, and the same applies for her Eurovision 2023 effort.
Her song will talk about important social matters. It is a melodic ballad with significant lyrics.

#5. Monika – I’m Proud

Monika is a 37 year old Greek singer-songwriter.
She plays multiple instruments including the piano, guitar, saxophone, accordion, and drums.
So far, she has released 4 studio albums.
The singer submitted 3 songs for selection.
The song which was shortlisted is a mid-tempo song.

#6. Victor Vernicos – What They Say

Victor Veronics is a 16 year old singer-songwriter.
The singer has Danish roots.
His song for Eurovision 2023 is an emotional ballad.

#7. Melissa Mantzoukis – Liar

Melissa Mantzoukis is an 18 year-old Greek singer.
She is well known for participating in the German music reality show – “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” where she ended 3rd in the final.
Dimitris Kontopoulos from the Geek Dream team is one of the composers of her song.
Her song for Eurovision 2023 is a dance pop that talks about women’s empowerment.

However, the selection process will have a different mechanism this year.
While in 2022, Amanda Tenfjord was chosen by the professional jury,
in 2023 the publc will be partly involved.

A total of 70 people from the public were chosen, with the following composition:

  • 25 people from the age of 18-25 years old
  • 20 people from the age of 26-35 years old
  • 15 people from the age of 36-45 years old
  • 10 people from the age of 46+ years old


Today, the demochopic jury listened to these 7 songs ranked them independently and personally.
The 70 voters didn’t know who was the singer behind each song.

The Greek entry for Eurovision 2023 will be chosen by a combination of 50.6% for the demoscopic jury ans 49.4% for the professional jury (composed of 7 members).
The aim of these weights is to make it similar to the the new voting system of Eurovision 2023.
In the public vote, we will have an additional country – “The rest of the world”

The estimated time to know who will represent Greece is around the second half of January 2023
