Greek Broadcaster Complaints Regarding Cypriot Selection For Eurovision 2024

Cypriot news website Politis brings very interesting news from Cyprus and Greece.

As we have reported, Cypriot broadcaster RIK will collaborate with Greek label Panik Records for the aim of Eurovision 2024 selection.

The artist who will represent Cyprus will be chosen via the musical show “Fame Story.
The submission window opened last week. The show will be hosted by Greek presenter Nikos Koklonis

Greek broadcaster ERT has contacted the EBU regarding the way Cyprus will choose its act for Eurovision 2024.
According to this report, the main complaint of ERT is that Cyprus will hold a national selection in a collaboration with Greek channel (Star Greece). In addition, the selection will be held in the territory of Greece, outside of Cyprus’ territory.
The Greek broadcaster wants the EBU to check the validity of such a decision.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that Greece, through one of its public organizations, has denounced Cyprus as an international organization.

At this point, Greek broadcaster ERT threatens to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest, whether Cypros won’t change its plans for Eurovision 2024.
The EBU has already sent a letter to the Cypriot broadcaster to figure out the answers.
Should the EBU decide Cyprus plans are against the rules, the country will have to revisit the format and selection process for Eurovision 2024.
For some of us, such a complaint comes as a surprise due to the strong cultural-political-geographical relations between Cyprus and Greece.
