“The Looker 2023”: Eurovision Wish List – Chapter 8 (Australia, Ireland, United Kingdom)

Welcome to our series of posts – The Looker” where we will share our wish list of artists participating in Eurovision.
This is the 3rd year in a row that we are running the project.
But before we start, let us remark that our recommendations will not necessarily come true (as for example some countries select their artists by reality shows)

This is the 8th post in the series and it will concentrate on 3 countries: Australia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

#1. Bella Taylor Smith

Bella Taylor Smith is a 25 year-old Australian singer.
In 2021, she participated in the 10th season of “The Voice of Australia“.
She won the season and therefore earned a contract with EMI Music Australia.
Ever since then, she has released several singles and a live album “The Anita’s Sessions”.

Bella Taylor Smith has conquered the hearts of the Australian audience.

#2. Daniel Johns

Daniel Paul Johns is a 44 year-old Australian singer-songwriter.
He is well known for being the frontman of the rock band Silverchair (between the years 1992 and 2011).
During his career, Daniel has won 25 ARIA Music Awards: 21 of them as part of the Silverchair and 4 additional as a solo artist. He has been nominated
Daniel has released 7 studui albums: 5 of them as part of Silverchair (in the years 1995, 1997 ,1999, 2002, 2007).
He has released an additional 2 albums as a solo artist:

  • Talk” (2015) – peaked at number 2nd in the Australian charts
  • FutureNever” (2022) – peaked at number 1st in the Australian charts

Daniel Johns is an experienced performer.
He suggests an irresistible combination of tenderness and hardness.
His exposed text and vocal abilities put him in a very promising spot to earn the Australian representative.

#1. Biig Piig

Jessica Smyth (better known as Biig Piig) is a 25 year-old Irish singer-songwriter.
She performs in English and Spanish, and is signed to Sony Music.
At the age of 4, she and her family moved to Spain for 8 years.
That’s why, she was at first able to read and write only in Spanish.
Later on, the family moves back to Ireland and London.
In 2016, she started uploading music to SoundCloud.
In 2017, she caught the attention of digital music platform COLORS, who invited her to record a live video session.
The singer released 4 EPs between the years 2018 and 2021.
In 2023, she releaed her debut album “Bubbluegum

Biig Piig creates a unique alt-pop line of songs that we miss at Eurovision.
I can see her bringing an “our of the box” song, which might be a game changer for Ireland.

#2. CMAT

Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson (better known as CMAT) is a 26 year-old Irish singer-songwriter.
CMAT relocated to Manchester in order to push her music career. She began her career as part of the duo “Bad Sea” with her then boyfriend.
Thereafter, she moved back to Ireland and started working on her solo career.
She started releasing songs independently and got the attention of the BBC and RTÉ Radio 1.
The singer has released several singles since 2020.
In 2022, she released her debut album – “If My Wife New I’d Be Dead“.
The album was awarded the best album in the Irish “Choice Music Prize 2022″.
Later this year, she will release her 2nd album – “Crazymad, For Me“.

CMAT creates her own music, which can be defined as a fusion of pop country and folk.
What puts her on high priority to claim the stage for Ireland is her theatrical style, which might be seen perfectly in her video clips and live shows.

#1. Blanco White

Josh Edwards (better known as Blanco White) is a 31 year-old English singer-songwriter and guitarist.
Blanco White travelled to Spain and Colombia to focus on studying local folk music and playing charango and flamencgo guitar.
He launched his solo career in 2014.
In 2016, he released his debut EP: “The Wind Rose”. In 2017, he released his 2nd EP: “Colder Heavens”. In 2018, he released his 3rd EP: “The Nocturne“.
Since 2016, he toured Europe and the US.
In 2020, he released his debut album, “On The Other Side”.
In 2023, he released an additional EP, “Time Can Prove You Wrong

Blancao White combines a fragile voice with traditional melodies, and somehow it still sounds like a well-prouded British indie. He leaves a unique atmosphere stamp that’s attractive for the listener.


#2. London Grammar

London Grammar in a British indie-dream pop band. The band was formed in 2009 and it is based on the line up: Hanna Reid (vocalist), Dominic “Dot” Major (keyboard, djembe, drums), and Dan Rothman (guitarist)..
The band won 4 music awards during 2013-2014.

London Grammar is an established band with a rich experience in performing live. Their unique style is a combination of ambient pop and classical motives, with the influence of tip-hop and dance.
Vocalist Hannah Reid is a brilliant vocalist who excels in delivering emotions.
