Australia: SBS and EBU Discuss Eurovision 2024 Participation

The deadline for countries to confirm Eurovision 2024 passed on the 15th of September 2023.
However, for some countries, it seems like the story hasn’t ended yet.

Australia received a special invitation to take part in Eurovision in 2015.
The Australian broadcaster has cast the show for many years before, building the local Eurovision base faithfully.

Thereafter, the country has been invited to the contest each year by the reference group.
The situation changed in February 2019, when the EBU offered 5 years conract that guarentees Australia‘s participation at Eurovision.

The agreement came to an end after May 2023, and therefore raised questions regarding Australia‘s particioation at Eurovision 2024 and in the future.
In parallel, national broadcaster SBS remained silent, mentioning nothing about plans or confirmation for Eurovision 2024.

Eurovision-related site EScToday approached SBS to get additional details.
They have received the following answer:

Eurovision is a cherished part of the SBS family. Australia’s future participation in the song contest is currently in discussion. We understand Eurovision fans are eager for an update and appreciate their patience as we work through these next steps. We’ll confirm details as soon as we are able

Therefore, we learned that the EBU and SBS are probably negotiating the country’s participation.,
Australia has achieved honourable mention results with 5 top 10 places in: 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023.
Considering the Eurovision passion of SBS, and the fact that some countries don’t take part anymore (Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Monaco and more), we hope to see Australia participating next year as well.

The official list of participating countries will be released by the EBU at the end of October.

Voyager represented Australia at Eurovision 2023 with their song “Promise“.
They ended-up in the 9th place, with a total of 151 points:
