The EBU Identifies Future Development Areas For Eurovision

Following some controversial events that took place during Eurovision 2024, the EBU has decided to ask for an independent review.
According to several source, the review was led by Pernille Gaardbo, who was the executive producer for Eurovision 2014.
The conclusions from this review led to an official EBU statement, where the strategy for the Eurovision planning has been spanned.
Subsequently, the EBU has identified 3 main areas of development:

#1. EBU Governance and Participation

  • The responsibility of each of the EBU Governing Bodies will be clarified. These includes topics like: Approving the list of participating countries, Ensuring that wide range of opinions and voices are heard
  • The responsibility of each participating broadcaster and the artists representing their countries.
  • The role of the Head of the Delegations.

#2. Safety and Risk Management 

  • Ensuring the Eurovision rules and regulations are well-defined and clarified to each stakeholder.
  • Expanding the Eurovision Crisis protocols to cover a wider range of scenarios.
  • Strengthen the activities taken to be protected from Cyber and security threatens.

#3.Ensuring a general-audience show and broad engagement 

  • Expand the collaboration with Eurovision fans groups, media, and influencers.
  • Increase the engagement created by the Eurovision brand and show to wide range of audiences.

The suggested changes will be reviewed and overseen by the EBU senior managers and members.
One of the review findings was the need to expand the Eurovision leaders team.
This will help to cover all possible aspects of the events and the derived preparations.
Therefore, a new position was created: ESC Director, who will report to EBU Deputy Director General and Media Director.
This will allow to have an additional review of the Executive Supervisor’s work, who will focus on the production, building the relationship between the EBU and the national broadcasters.
The ESC producer will oversee the Executive Supervisor’s work, and will also manage the Head of ESC Brand and Commercial (Another new role)

Eurovision 2025 will be held in Switzerland.
