Italy: “Festival di Sanremo 2027” Regulations Revealed

Italian broadcaster RAI revealed more details regarding the traditional “Festival di Sanremo“.

Stefano De Martino will act as the new artistic director and festival host, taking the place of Carlo Conti. As a result, he chose to modify some of the festival rules.

Festival Di Sanremo 2027 Format

1. The festival will last for 5 nights, starting on February 16th, and ending on February 20th, 2027.
2. 24 artists will compete in the 77th edition of the festival: 23 established artists and the winner of “Sanremo Giovani 2026”.
3. Tuesday, Night 1, February 16th, 2027:
   1. All 24 artists will perform their songs
   2. The results will be based on a public vote and a press jury
4. Wednesday, Night 2, February 17th, 2027:
   1. All 24 artists will perform their songs
   2. The results will be based on a public vote and a radio jury
5. Thursday, Night 3, February 18th, 2027:
   1. Each of the 24 artists will perform a cover in an Italian or foreign language.
   2. The artists will perform those covers alongside another artist (who doesn’t take part in the festival)
   3. The results will be a public vote, a press jury, and a radio jury.
   4. The winner of the night will be declared, but the results of the 3rd won’t impact the final ranking.
6. Friday, Night 4, February 19th, 2027:
   1. This night will be “The Performance Night”
   2. All 24 artists will perform their songs
   3. The artists will be able to have a different staging and/or interpretation of their song.
   4. The results will be based on international jury and public vote
   5. The winner of the night will be announced as “The Performance Night” winner
   6. The winner will have the first right to represent Italy in Eurovision 2027
   7. The results of the 4th night won’t impact the final ranking.
7. Saturday, Night 5, February 20th, 2027:
   1. All 24 artists will perform their songs
   2. The results on the night will be a public vote, a press jury, and a radio jury.
   3. The final ranking of the festival will be based on aggregation of the first, second and fifth night on the festival
   4. The top 3-5 highest-ranking artists will proceed to the super final.
   5. The results of the super-final will be based on the public vote only, alongside the aggregation of the first, second, and fifth nights of the festival.
   6. The winner of the super final will be announced as the “Festival Di Sanremo 77” winner.
8. In particular, this means the winner of the festival and the Eurovision 2027 representative won’t be the same artist.
