Moldavian singer Vera Turcanu returns with her emotional new single“Umbrele”.
Vera Turcanu is well known to all us Eurovision fans by her three participations in “O Melodi Pentru Europa”, Moldova’s national song selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Vera’s debuted in 2015 competition singing “Faith” together with Diana Popa, but was lack to qualify for the final. Two years later, in 2017, Vera’s entry “Black Heart” almost brought her to Kyiv as she finished 2nd to DoReDos‘s “My Lucky Day”. Her last appearance last year with “Cold” ended in the 4th place. Besides Eurovision, she is also known for her participation in the X Factor Romania, The Voice of Turkey, and in the Romanian singing competition “Canta Acum Cu Mine”.
Now, Vera is back with the same team responsible for “Cold” and “Black Heart”. “Umbrele” was written by Vera herself and composed together with David Gällring and Karl Sahlin. the English version of the song, entitled “You”, was written by the team last member, the Greek lyricist Nikos Sofis and will be released soon.
The song theme is similar to Vera’s previous songs and is talking about a toxic relationship. You can hear Vera repeat the line “te iubesc, te consum, te urasc” which means “I love you, I consume you, I hate you”. all that goes hand by hand with excellent dramatic sound production that makes vera’s singing twist your guts around with passion. a face that makes the waiting for the English version even more.
Finally, after two weeks of waiting patiently and looking at the promising teaser video, “Umbrele” video is out to the world and the song is available in all music platforms. The beautiful music video was shot in Moldova by Nicholas Suvorov and it is definitely the last puzzle piece that completes the picture perfectly.
Vera Turcanu is one of the more surprising artists “O Melodi Pentru Europa” have revealed through the years. it is clear to see that Vera is in a continuous journey in her musical career that makes her soul exposed and vulnerable with every new sound. One thing is for sure: the Eurovision is waiting to discover Vera Turcanu! we wonder if that will happen anytime soon
