2,530 songs were submitted for the national festival. Only 28 songs will compete in Melodifestivalen 2022,14 songs will be chosen directly from the submissions process by a selected jury and 14 songs by artists or songwriters that have been invited to compete or songs that SVT has chosen from the songs that were sent in.
Swedish broadcaster SVT is very determined to give priority of 10 songs out of total competing must be mainly written in Swedish language. Same melody of the song can be written in different languages aswell. Once the winning song is chosen broadcaster can decide in which language the song has to be performed.
Swedish citizens are allowed to send in songs for the competitions, foreign songwriters also can submit an entry but at least 1 Swedish composer/lyricist. SVT aims that at least 50% of the composers and lyricists are competing are female.
Swedish broadcaster SVT will announce the competing acts at some point after 25th November 2021.
Tusse won Melodifestivalen 2021 with song ”Voices” and represented Sweden at Eurovision 2021.
