The Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has released a statement regarding Eurovision 2024.
Ever since the war between terror organization Hamas and Israel begun, Iceland was one of the countries to raise their voice regarding the ongoing war.
The EBU has openly communicate its statement regarding the participating countries for Eurovision 2024.
Based on the statement, Israeli broadcaster Kan complies with all the regulations.
This was also validated by the Eurovision reference group, shortly before the official confirmation of participation countries
However, local artists from Iceland have suggested the country shouldn’t participate at Eurovision 2024, as a protest.
While the national broadcaster hasn’t take an official step in front of the EBU, we learn more about the vision of RÚV:
Stefán EirÃksson, RÚV radio director reacted:
The “Söngvakeppnin 2024” candidated apply with the goal of becoming Iceland’s contribution to Eurovision. They are concerned about the state of affairs just like we are. This has been our preparation for Eurovision and we have announced that we intend to participate in Eurovision without any changes, but we do not know what the future holds
RÚV suggests the following formula for the short-mid term:
- “Söngvakeppnin 2024” (The national selection for Eurovision 2024) will be held as usual, with the songs and artists becoming known on Saturday, the 27th of January 2024.
- 10 artists will participate in “Söngvakeppnin 2024”.
- The final of “Söngvakeppnin 2024” will be held on the 2nd of March 2024.
- After the final, the winner of the national selection will have the right to decide whether to represent Iceland at Eurovision 2024. The decision will also depend on the futuristic status of the ongoing war.
- It is possible the country will actually won’t take part in Eurovision 2024. However, another option is that the Icelandic representative for Eurovision 2024 will be selected in other way (for example: internally).

Eurovision 2024 will be held in Malmö, Sweden.
The semi-finals will be held on the 7th and 9th of May 2024, and the grand final will be held on the 11th of May 2024
