Sweden: 2794 Songs Submitted For “Melodifestivalen 2025”

Swedish broadcaster SVT closed the submission window for “Melodifestivalen 2025” on September 1st 2024.
A total of 2,794 entries were submitted to the contest.
As a comparison, last year SVT received 2,624 songs for “Melodifestivalen 2024”.

Only 30 songs will be shortlisted to compete in the national selection.
15 of them will be chosen by the professional jury from the list of these submissions, while the remaining 15 will be selected later on by SVT (usually from known artists and writerts).

Karin Gunnarsson, the “Melodifestivalen” producer, commented:

Now I am looking forward to starting the next phase in the selection process and it will be an intense and fun autumn. The goal is of course to clinch another Eurovision victory and make a Melodifestival that delivers both hits and great entertainment and engages the entire Swedish people.

“Melodifestivalen 2025” – Known Details

  1. The professional committee will shortlist 30 songs to compete in the live shows. Some of them will be chosen from the applications, while others from artists who have received invitations from SVT.
  2. The selection will last for 6 weeks between February and March 2025.
  3. The selection will feature 5 semi-final and a grand final.
  4. 6 artists will take part in each semi-final. The top 2 will qualify for the final.
  5. Unlike previous editions, the songs will be released one day before each semi-final (and not just snippets!)
  6. The artists who will finish in the 4th, 5th and 6th place (in each semi-final) will be eliminated.
  7. At the end of the 5th semi-final,
    • The highest scoring 3rd-place song (out of possible 5) will get a ticket to the final
    • The remaining 4 artists will face additional voting rounds. The winner will qualify for the final.
  8. The results of the semi-finals will be determined by a public vote
  9. 12 artists will make it to the final, where the results will be based on a 50% public vote and 50% international jury vote.

Marcus & Martinus represented Sweden at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Unforgettable”.
They finished in 9th place with 174 points.

Eurovision 2025 will be held in Basel, Switzerland on the 13th, 15th and 17th of May 2025
