Melodifestivalen 2020: Listen To The First Semi-Final Snippets and Get To Know The Artists

One of Europe’s most expected national final, the Swedish Melodifestivalen will KIck off its 2020 season this Saturday. and here’s Everything You Need To Know Before The Show

The popular show will have the same mechanism as in the past few years. 28 artists, already revealed in a special press conference will compete in 4 semi-finals and the Top4 from each semi will continue for the next round. the top 2 will go directly to the final and places 3-4 will continue for the second chance will take place a week before the final (February 29th, 2020). All events will be hosted by Lina Hedlund, Linnea Henriksson, and David Sundin

The Swedish representative for Rotterdam will be decided on the show’s grand final that will take place on March 7th, 2020 at the Friends Arena in Stockholm.

Earlier this week, the stage design of Melodifestivalen 2020 was revealed. The stage won’t have LED screens this year but will include 220 m2 backdrop lit by 8 state-of-the-art projectors that will allow more space for special props and bigger choreography as described by the stage designer Viktor Brattström.

Melodifestivalen 2020 semi-final 1 will take place on Linköping’s SAAB Arena and these are the acts that will perform on the show:

The Mamas are Ashley ”Ash” Haynes, Loulou Lamotte and, Dinah Yonas Manna. the girls got famous as they were the backing vocalists for John Lundvik’s “Too Late For Love” last year in Tel-Aviv. Loulou Lamotte was also the backing vocalists Behrang Miri in Melodifestivalen “Jalla Dansa Sawa”

Written by Joy Deb, Suzi Pancenkov, Aniela Eklund, Malou Ruotsalainen, Chanel Tukia, and Kenny Silverdique.

Suzi ”Suzi P” Pancenkov is an eighteen-year-old Swedish hip hop singer. she first started her career on social media like Instagram and Youtube and her single “Shunon” became a huge hit. this is her first appearance on the Melfest stage

Song #3 – Robin Bengtsson – Take a Chance

Written by Jimmy Jansson, Karl-Frederik Reichhardt, and Marcus Winther-John

Robin Bengtsson was first got his recognition in 2008 when he came 3rd on the Swedish Idol. He debuts the Melodifestivalen in 2016 with “Constellation Prize” finished 5th. a year later in 2017, Robin and his Stepper dancers won the Melodifestivalen with “I Can’t Go On” and finished 5th On Kyiv’s Eurovision 2017.

One of the song composers Jimmy Jansson has participated himself three times on Melodifestivalen singing ”What Difference Does It Make?” as a part of the band “Poets” in 2002, ”Vi kan gunga” in 2005, and “Amanda” in 2007.

Song #4 – Malou Prytz – Ballerina

Written by Thomas G:son, Peter Boström, and Jimmy Jansson.

Seventeen-year-old Malou Trasthe Prytz is a Swedish singer. “Ballerina” will be her second appearance in Melodifestivalen. last year her entry “I Do Me” was qualified straight to the final in Globen where she finished 12th.

Among her songwriters stands the Eurovision legend Thomas G:son that wrote hundreds of entries for the national finals worldwide and many Eurovision hits such as Loreen’s “Euphoria“, Carola’s “Invincible” and Spain’s 2015 “Amanecer” by Edurne.

On stage will perform next to Malou the Swedish singer-songwriter Isa Tengblad. Isa is well familiar to the Melfest fans for her two participations in the show with “Don’t Stop” in 2015 and “I Will Wait” reached for the second chance in 2016. Malou performance will be produced by the Swedish megastar Alice Gernandt (aka Ace Wilder) and her iconic performances on Melfest stage (“Busy Doin’ Nothin‘” 2014, “Don’t Worry” 2016 and, “Wild Child” in 2017) can give us a hint that we have a lot to be waiting for this year.

Written by Jaouli Akofely, Nicholas Frandsen, Lukas Nathanson, Nickie Osenius.

OVÖ consist of Jaouli Akofely and, Nickie Osenius. the duo is working together since 2017 and they make pop music with influences of afrobeat and African dance music.

Lukas Nathanson was behind Vlad Reiser’s “Nakna i regnet” in 2019.

Song #6 – Sonja Aldén – Sluta aldrig gå

Written by Bobby Ljunggren, David Lindgren Zacharias, Sonja Aldén.

Sonja Aldén is a well known Melfest artist who returns to the contest for the 4th time. She debuts Melodifestivalen in 2006 with the song “Etymon” who is still one of the biggest Schlager hits for many fans. in 2007, Sonja participated with the ballad “För att du finns“, which reached “Andra Chansen” and after five years of absence in 2012 her song “I din himmel” finished 6th in the second semi-final.

Sonja also participated in the Melodifestivalen as a composer and stand behind Shirley Clamp‘s “Att älska dig” in 2005 and The Poodles‘s “Night of passion” in 2016, both of them finished 4th ion the final.

For her 2020 entry “Sluta aldrig gå” Sonja has teamed up again with Bobby Ljunggren that wrote with her first entry for Melodifestivalen “Etymon”

Song #7 – Felix Sandman – Boys with Emotions

Written by Tony Ferrari, Parker James, Peter Thomas, Philip Bentley, Nicki Adamsson and, Felix Sandman.

Felix Sandman began his music career in the boy band FO&O. this is also where he first appeared in Melodifestivalen when they came 11th in 2017 final with “Gotta Thing About You“. The following year, in 2018, he sang solo the ballad “Every Single Day” and finished 2nd right after Benjamin Ingrosso who traveled to Lisbon. Both of them were selected for the opening act of Melfest 2019 as they perform with the medley “Tror du att han bryr sig/All Night Long ”

Felix Sandman wrote the song together with Parker James who was also behind his 2018 entry.
