Sweden: Meet the First 14 “Melodifestivalen 2022” Participants

As always, Sweden will use “Melodifestivalen” as their selection for Eurovision.
28 acts will compete on the right to represent the country at Eurovision 2022.

SVT is also planning to take Melodifestivalen on tour around Sweden after “Melodifestivalen 2021″ edition was held only in Stockholm with no audience. Tour dates and locations for Melodifestivalen 2022 will be:

Semi-Final 1: Malmö – Malmö Arena (5th February 2022)
Semi-Final 2: Gothenburg – Scandinavium (12th Feburary 2022)
Semi-Final 3: Linköping – Saab Arena (19th February 2022)
Semi-Final 4: Lidköping – Sparbanken Arena (26th February 2022)
Semi-Final 5: Örnsköldsvik – Hägglunds Arena (5th March 2022)
Final: Stockholm – Friends Arena (12th March 2022)

The overall number of competing acts will be 28 which will remain the same. During the first 4 semi-finals, two acts will advance directly to the final as normal, while two other acts will advance to the 5th semi-final. The 8 acts in Semi-Final 5 will then be divided into two groups. The two songs that receive the most votes in each group will advance to the grand final of Melodifestivalen 2022.

Oscar Zia will host Melodifestivalen 2022 with multiple co-hosts.

Earlier today, Swedish broadcaster SVT revealed half of the participants in “Melodifestivalen 2022“.
SVT didn’t hold any special press conferences this year.
Here are the 14 participants alongside the song titles and writers behind them:

Anders Bagge – “Bigger Than The Universe

Song Writers: Anders Bagge, Jimmy Jansson, Peter Boström, Thomas G:son

Anders Bagge is a Swedish composer, lyricist, musician, and record producer.
He is 53 years old and well known in Sweden in other Nordic countries as well.
He started his journey in the early 1990s while being a member of the band Legacy of Sound.
However, his breakthrough was in 1998, as a writer of the hit  “Because of You” by the American pop and R&B vocal group 98 Degrees.
Anders was also one of the judges in the “Swedish Idol“.
During his career, the musician collaborated with international musicians such as Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Santana, and Enrique Iglesias.
This isn’t the first time he has been involved in Eurovision: In 2012, he was one of the co-writers of Azerbaijan’s entry, When The Music Dies” by Sabina Babayeva.
In addition, he was one of the producers of Azerbaijan‘s entry for Eurovision 2010 – “Drip Drop

Cazzi Opeia (Moa Carlebecker) – “I Can’t Get Enough

Song Writers: Anders Bagge, Jimmy Jansson, Peter Boström, Thomas G:son

33-year-old singer and songwriter will make her debut “Melodifestivalen“.
She has won 3 awards in “Musikförläggarnas pris” – best newcomer and best international artist of the year (twice).
She has also written songs for international artists, like the K-Pop band BTS.
 As a songwriter, she has been streamed over 4 billion times and has more than 1.5 billion views on YouTube.

Cornelia Jakobs – “Hold Me Closer

Cornelia Jakobs has been doing music since the age of 7.
Her debut album will be released soon.
So far, she has released 9 singles. Her music is powerful yet fragile, cinematic and emotional and takes you on a journey with every song.

Danne Stråhed – “Hallabaloo

Danne started his musical journey in various bands in the middle of the 1970’s.
The 65 year old musician was a member of the band Chinox, which collaborated with the legendary rock band AC/DC.
He has released 16 studio-albums to date (some of them as part of a band).
His musical roots are in Swedish folk music, the American South, and the Caribbean.
He is well known among a lot of Swedish people.

Faith Kakembo – “Freedom

Faith Kakembo is 36 years old. She rose to fame after reaching the finals in the competition for emerging artists – “P4 Natsa“.
In 2020, she made her debut in “Melodifestivalen 2020” with the song “Crying Rivers“. Back then, she finished 5th in the semi-final, and therefore didn’t advance for the final..

John Lundvik – “Änglavakt” (English: Angel Guard)

Song Writers: Anderz Wrethov, Elin Wrethov, Benjamin Rosenbohm, Fredrik Sonefors, John Lundvik

John Lundvik represented Sweden at Eurovision 2019 with the song “Too Late For Love“.
He ended up 5th in the grand final:

He won “Melodifestivalen 2019” and ended as the runner-up in “Melodifestivalen 2018“.
John Lundvik is also one of the co-writers of 2 non-Swedish Eurovision entries:
United Kingdom 2019: Michael Rice – Bigger Than Us
France 2020: Tom Leeb – Mon Alliée (The Best In Me)

Klara Hammarström – “Run To The Hills

Song Writers:Jimmy ‘Joker’ Thörnfeldt, Julie Aagaard, Anderz Wrethov, Klara Hammarström

The 21 year old singer will participate at “Melodifestivalen 2022“.
In 2020, she competed with the song “Nobody” and was eliminated in the semi-finals.

In 2021, she performed the song “Beat of Broken Hearts” and ended up 6th in the grand final.

Liamoo – “Bluffin

Song Writers: Jimmy ‘Joker’ Thörnfeldt, Sami Rekik, Dino Medanhodzic, Ali Jammali

Liamoo won “Swedish Idol” in 2016. He has participated twice in “Melodifestivalen“.
In 2018, he performed the song “Last Breath” and ended up 8th in the final.
In 2019, he performed a duet with Hanna Ferm. They performed the song “Hold You” and ended up in 3rd place in the grand final.

Since then, he has released several successful singles

Linda Bengtzing – “Fyrfaldigt hurra!” (Eng: Four times hurray!)

Song Writers: Thomas G:son, Linda Bengtzing, Myra Granberg, Daniel Jelldéus

47 year old Linda Bengtzing is one of “Melodifestivalen” veterans.
She has already participated in 7 editions of the contest.
Her first attempt was in 2005 with the song “Alla flicko“, while her last participation to date was in 2020 with the song “Alla mina sorger“. Back then, she didn’t make it to the finals.

Niello & Lisa Ajax – “Tror du att jag bryr mig” (Eng: Do You Think I Care?

Song Writers: Yvonne Dahlbom, Niklas ‘Niello’ Grahn Linroth, Jesper Welander

Niello (real name: Niklas Grahn) is a 34-year-old Swedish rapper. He rose to fame in 2013 with the song “Legenden” that made him earn millions streams on Spotify.
Niello has tried to submit songs for “Melodifestivalen“, but has never been accepted by SVT until now.

Lisa Ajax rose to fame after participating in “Swedish Idol“.
She has participated in “melodifestivalen” 3 times in the past:

In 2016, she competed with the song “My Heart Wants Me Dead”.
She won the third semi-final and ended up 7th in the grand final:

In 2017, she performed the song “I Don’t Give A“. She advanced to the final through a “second chance” round and ended-up 9th in the final:

In 2019, she performed the song “Torn“.She advanced to the final through a “second chance” round and ended-up 9th in the final:

Omar Rudberg – “Moving Like That

Song Writers: Omar Rudberg, Gustav Blomberg, Amanda Kongshaug, Kristin Marie

Omar is a 23-year-old Swedish singer and actor.
Omar made his debut in “Melodifestivalen in 2017 with the boy-band FO&O.
They finished in 11th place in “Melodifestivalen 2017″ final

In 2019, he competed in “Melodifestivalen” as a solo artist with the song “Om om och om igen“.
However, he failed to qualify for the final:

He recently had some huge success with the Netflix series “Young Royals“.
In 2021, he was rejected by SVT while trying to participate in “Melodifesativalen 2021“.

Samira Manners – “I want To Be Loved

Samira is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter.
She has a special vocal stamp, as she tends to sing in a fragile voice.

Theoz – “Som du vill” (Eng: As You Wish)

Song Writers: Tobias Lundgren, Axel Schylström, Tim Larsson, Elize Ryd, Jimmy ‘Joker’ Thörnfeldt

Theoz is a 16 year old Swedish Tiktok star. It will be his debut in “Melodifestivalen“.
He rose to fame in 2018, while being only 12 years old with the song “Het” which became a hit in Sweden.

Tribe Friday – “Shut Me Up”

Song Writers: Isak Gunnarsson, Robin Hanberger Pérez, Noah Deutschmann

The band consists of 3 members: Noah Deutschmann (guitar/lead vocalist), Isak Gunnarsson (guitar), and Robin Hanberger Pérez (bass).
It is an Indie rock, dance-pop and emo band that was formed in 2020.
