Sweden: SVT Plans for Eurovision 2024 Unveiled

Just a bit after Swedish Loreen won Eurovision 2023, the Eurovision 2024 host country has already started with intensive preparations before Eurovision 2024

According to the reliable Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, many details can be revealed and inferred.


Unsurprisingly, Sweden has already started making anything needed for the host city bid. So far, 4 cities have submitted their candidacy: Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, and Örnsköldsvik.

SVT has formed no less than 123 different requirements from the host city to be checked.
The destination aim of SVT is to decide on the host city during July 2023 (an early time compared to the announcement of host cities in recent years)

SVT Main Plans for Eurovision 2023

  1. There are 2 main possible dates for Eurovision 2024:
    • Option 1: Semi-Finals on the 7th and 9th of May, and Grand Final on the 11th of May 2024
    • Option 2: Semi-Finals on the 14th and 16th of May and Grand Final on the 18th of May 2024
  2. SVT will focus on the television production of the events. Meanwhile, the host city will carry the responsibility of managing the contract with different suppliers, logistics, and infrastructure for the hosting.
  3. The selected arena will have to be occupied by Eurovision 2024 preparations for 7-8 consecutive weeks.
  4. The host city should enable at least 3,500 rooms.
  5. The press center should be at a capacity of at least 1200 seats.
  6. Greenroom should be at a capacity of at least 260 seats (26 delegations in the final, with up to 10 seats per each)
  7. Space in the venue for at least 40 commentator booths.
  8. A space with good sound quality and acoustics should be available for sound checks.
  9. A space with an area of at least 1500 square meters for storing props and scenography.
  10. The plan should also include space for sponsors, rooms for delegations and artists, and space for beauty (make-up, hair, and more)
  11. Electricity supply must be continuous, including a backup plan
  12. The host city will be responsible for the additional related events: From the allocation draw and hist city handover ceremony in January 2024 to the Euroclub before Eurovision.

In addition, we might face some format changes.
According to Aftonbaldet, SVT considers shortening the duration of Eurovision 2024 main shows. The expected duration might be shortened by up to an hour!
However, the exact format of the Eurovision 2024 vote will be finalized in January 2024.
