A few days after Eurovision 2023 ended, Cyprus revealed its plans to organize a national selection for Eurovision 2024.
The initial plans was to create a collaboration between the Cypriot broadcaster RIK will and Greek label Panik Records for the aim of Eurovision 2024 selection.

Cypriot broadcaster RIK has even opened the submission window for “Fame Story” – a musical reality TV show with a known format of a star academy

However, on the 29th of July 2023, we found out that not everyone in satisfied with the path Cyprus wanted to step for its Eurovision 2024 journey.
Greek broadcaster ERT has contacted the EBU regarding the way Cyprus will choose its act for Eurovision 2024.
According to this report, the main complaint of ERT is that Cyprus will hold a national selection in a collaboration with Greek channel (Star Greece). In addition, the selection will be held in the territory of Greece, outside of Cyprus’ territory.
The Greek broadcaster wants the EBU to check the validity of such a decision. At this point, Cyprus had to revisit the format for Eurovision 2024 selection.

According to a report by OGAE Cyprus, Cyprus has probably changed the plans for Eurovision 2024.
To avoid any controversy with Greece or the EBU, Cyprus will step down from choosing “Fame Story” as the selection process for Eurovision 2024.
The considered option is an internal selection of the artist, with a separated show for the song selection. The idea is to hold a TV show that will be held in Nicosia in January 2024.
The selected artist will perform 3 songs, and one of them will be chosen as the song Eurovision 2024, with the involvement of the public.
Some might recognize such format in the history of Eurovision, for example Israel 2007-2010, Finland 2018-2019, Bulgaria 2021, Romania 2020, Spain 2021 and more
