Sweden: SVT Announces “Melodifestivalen 2026” Submission Window

Swedish broadcaster SVT has announced that “Melodifestivalen 2026″ will be used as the selection process for Eurovision 2026.

“Melodifestivalen 2026” – Known Details

  1. The submission window will open on August 17th and will close on September 12th, 2025.
  2. Submissions can be made online here.
  3. The selected jury will shortlist the submitted songs.The panel will consist of the “Melodifestivalen” main board members, among them Karin Gunnarsson (“Melodifestivalen” producer).
  4. The competition will consist of 6 shows: 5 semi-finals and a grand final.
  5. The show will be held between February and March 2026.
  6. 30 acts will compete in the semi-final, 12 of them will qualify for the final.
  7. There aren’t any restrictions regarding the language of the songs.
  8. At least 30% of the chosen acts will be performed in Swedish.
  9. At least 50% of the chosen songs must feature female writers/composers.
  10. Any Swedish citizen/resident can apply. Foreign performers are welcome, as long as at least one of the songwriters/composers is Swedish.
  11. All submitted songs must not have been released before the contest.
  12. The song duration must be between 2 and 3 minutes.
  13. SVT might invite some performers, writers and composers to submits songs.

In the recent years, more than 2000 songs were submitted in each edition.
