On October 31st, the EBU announced that Bulgaria will return to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest after a three-year break.
Emil Koshlukov, the General President of BNT, explained:
“Eurovision is a stage where cultures meet and stories are shared. BNT supports talented artists and we are happy that we were able to once again provide an opportunity for a Bulgarian artist to represent our country in front of an audience of millions”
Earlier this week, BNT revealed more of its plans for Eurovision 2026.
The national broadcaster signed a contract with PROPHON to identify potential artists to represent the country in the Eurovision 2026 competition.
Anton Andonov, a member of the BNT’s director board, reacted:
The BNT team has been working hard for several weeks on the rules and criteria for the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, That is why the agreement with PROFON is extremely important for us, as it provides us with a clear criterion by which to invite the best and most convertible Bulgarian artists for the national selection, and not to rely on personal impressions, subjective selection, etc
PROFON will supply BNT with data on the 40 most-played Bulgarian artists across radio and television over the past eight months. This objective metric will serve as the basis for inviting performers to participate in the January selection round, eliminating subjective bias in choosing participants for the Eurovision national final.
Bulgaria will select its Eurovision 2026 entrant in January 2026.
The list of constants will be derived from the most-streamed artists in the country.
Viktor Kasamov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PROFON, commented:
For many years, PROPHON has been doing media monitoring in Bulgaria with a Spanish company and now we are glad that we can be useful in the participation of the Bulgarian artist for Eurovision on behalf of PROPHON. We present the information that is necessary for the selection of participants from Bulgaria to be objective and most precise
Intelligent Music Project represented Bulgaria in Eurovision 2022
They performed “Intention” and didn’t qualify for the final:
