The Acts, Lyrics, First Rehearsals Pics, And Basically Everything You Need To Know Before Sweden’s Melodifestivalen2021 Semi-Final 2

This Saturday, Sweden will continue its road to Rotterdam with the 2nd semi final of “Melodifestivalen 2021“!

The Swedish festival will have the same mechanism as in the past few years. 28 artists, already announced will compete in 4 semi-finals and the Top 4 from each semi will continue for the next round. the top 2 will go directly to the final and places 3-4 will continue for the second chance will take place a week before the final (March 6th, 2021)

Sweden’s representative for Rotterdam will be decided on the show’s grand final that will take place on March 13th, 2021. as for COVID-19 restrictions the show wont tour across Sweden’s cities and will be aired from the capital of Stockholm only. another restriction added to the 2021 is the 6 person limitation to perform at once and giving a specials attention for keeping the social distancing on stage. the show will be hosted by Christer Björkman and two Melfest all-stars: the Swedish singer Oscar Zia and Anis Don Demina. Zia is well remembered for his 2 finalist entries in the last decade “Yes We Can” reached the 8th place in 2014 and “Human” almost made it to Eurovision in 2016 finished 2nd behind Frans. Anis Don Demina also participated twice in the competition. his song “Mina bränder” along with singer Zeana came 5th in the 1st semi final of 2019. the year after in 2020 he was back in the competition, this time solo, and made it to the 5th place in the final with “Vem e som oss“. in case you’ll think you remember him from another place than the answer is yes. Anis was the the saxophone guy on Samir & Viktor 2018 entry “Shuffla“.

Despite his young age, 27 year-old Swedish singer and dancer Anton Kim Ewald is not a stranger when it comes to Melodifestivalen. Anton had his first move on the Melfest stage when he was only 16 as one of the dancers of “The Queen” Velvet in 2009, and following Danny Saucedo‘s “Amazing” the year after. Anton moved to the front of the stage in 2013 when he 1st participate as a solo artist. his entry “Begging” finished 4th in the final. the following year on his second attempt, he reached to the final once again where he came 10th singing “Natural“. For his 3rd entry, Anton gains another title, this time “a songwriter” as he was one of writers behind his 2021 entry “New Religion”

Song #2: Julia Alfrida – Rich

Julia Alfrida was the first known artist to be selected for Melfet 2021. earlier this year, the 25-year old girl has won the golden ticket for “Melodifestivalen 2021” trough the radio show “P4 Nästa 2020” toured across Sweden’s cities looking for the next big talent. Her song “Dark Room” was very loveable on the fans worldwide, but as the competition rules format, Julia was sent back to the studio in order to record a brand new song to be used as her Melfest debut entry.

“Rich” was co-written by Julia together with Melanie Wehbe and one of Sweden’s most talented composers Jimmy Jansson. As an artist Jansson was participated on Melodifestivalen Three times singing: ”What Difference Does It Make?” as a part of the band “Poets” in 2002, ”Vi kan gunga” in 2005, and “Amanda” in 2007. but besides being a singer, Jansson Melfest record is set as a composer and last year (2020) the talented guy had 6 (!!) competing entries in one year co-written by him.

This entry is a collaboration between two Swedish rappers. Sami Rekik better known as “Sam-E”, and his part on the band “Medina”. his Melodifestivalen experience so far was as a composer being one of writers of Melfest 2018 entry “Mitt Paradis” by Elias Abbas. For his 2021 act as a performing artist Sami will join Christopher Wahlberg A.K.A “Wahl”. Wahlberg was half of the of the dou “SödraSidan”. the guys joins in co-writing “90-talet” with Andreas Larsson, Josefin Glenmark who also was behind Ann-Louise Hanson entry in 2019 “Kärleken finns kvar“, and Jesper Welander who co-wrote the Melfest entries “Alla Mina Sorger” for Linda Bengtzing in 2019 and “Allting som vi sa” for Ida Redig 2018.

Song #4: Frida Green – The silence

Frida Green rose to glory in 2018 when she was one of the finalist in the show in “Talang“. later on, In 2020, she participated in “The Swedish Idol” but didn’t make it to the live shows. Frida will debut Melodifestivalen with a song co-written with one of the shows biggest icons and the Swedish representative for Eurovision 2010 Anna Bergendahl. joining Anna on writing this song are the iconic composer Bobby Ljunggren which is his 2nd song (out of 5) in 2021 competition. he is also behind many Eurovision hits such as Carola‘s “Evighet” (2006), Jan Johansen‘s “Se på mig” (1995) Charlotte Perrelli‘s “Hero” (2008), and all Anna’s song to Melfest (“This Is My Life” 2010, “Ashes to Ashes” 2019. and “Kingdom Come” 2020)

Song #5: Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos – Rena Rama Ding Dong

Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos are very famous entertainers in Sweden who have shared the stage many times together usually on TV Comedies such as the Swedish remake of “British Television“. But this will be defiantly the 1st time the duo will share the Melfest together. as a solo act one of them has already made it before. Eva Rydberg competed in 1977 where she sang “Charlie Chaplin” and reached the 7th place. 2021 entry “Rena Rama Ding Dong” was co-written by Eva’s son Kalle Rydberg while the choreography on stage belongs to her dotter Birgitta. another stars behind their 2021 entry are Göran Sparrdal who wrote with Arja Saijonmaa her song to Melfest 2019 “Mina fyra årstider” (5th in the SF), and Ari Lehtonen who is behind the song production of Melodifestivalen 1999 famous 2nd place “Stjärna på himmelen” by Drömhus.

Patrik Jean will debut the Melodifestivalen as a singer for the first time. actually, he already won the show in 2020 where he was one of the song writers behind the Mama’s song “MOVE” together with Melanie Wehbe, and Herman Gardarfve (one of IVAN‘s “Help You Fly” backing vocalists for Belarus in 2016. Now, the trio is back and they worked together for a song that Patrik will preform as well. for Melanie Wehbe it is a double battle this evening as she is also stands behind Julia Alfrida‘s “Rich”. Will “Tears Run Dry” move us again all the way to Rotterdam? we will know the answer soon.

Song #7: Dotter – Little Tot

It feels like it is almost unnecessary to represent Dotter to Eurovision fans. that is thanks to her unforgettable performance in last year competition singing “Bulletproof” that came 2nd with only 1 point behind the winning song “MOVE” and with 15M streams on Spotify a year after!. Johanna Maria Jansson (A.K.A Dotter) returns in Melodifestivalen for the 3rd time since she debut the contest in 2018 with “Cry“. So far in her musical career she is well remembered for collaborating with the Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw to sing “Walk With Me”. both performed the song as the interval act of Melodifestivalen 2019 Andra chansen.

As a composer Dotter was also responsible for these beautiful Melfest hits: “A Million Years” for Mariette in 2017 and 2020 host Lina Hedlund‘s “Victorious” in 2019. About her 2021 entry
Little Tot” she was quoted “My song is about getting aware of one’s ego. This might be even more fun than last year. When the viewers will get to see my act, they will probably think that it’s pretty maxed out.”. The same as in “Bulletproof, the song was written by Dotter with her fiancé Dino Medanhodzic
