“The Looker 2022”: Eurovision Wish List – Chapter 4 (Austria, Germany, Switzerland)

Welcome to our series of posts – “The Looker” where we will share our wish list of artists participating in Eurovision.
This is the second year in a row that we are running the project.
But before we start, let us remark that our recommendations will not necessarily come true (as for example some countries select their artists by reality shows)

#1. MYNTH

MYNTH are the Austrian twins Mario and Giovanna Fartacek. The duo formed in December 2014, previously they played with the indie band Deadnote.
Their music is mostly electro and trip-pop oriented.
In 2015, they released their debut EP, “Polar Night“.
In 2016, they released their second EP “Lola and Vain Remixes”.
In 2016, they released their first album, “Plaat 2“.
In 2017 they won the Amadeus Austrian Music Award.
In 2017, they released their second album, “Parallels“.
In 2018, they released their 3rd EP “Echo“.
In 2020, they released their 3d album “Shades|MYNTH“.

The combination of Giovanna‘s soft and fragile voice with the modern electro production puts MYNTH in a central place in the European music industry.
It seems they are an electro group to rely on even at Eurovision!

#2. ANT ANTIC

Ant Antic (real name: Tobias Koett) is an Austrian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and producer Tobias Koett.
He got into music by stealing Beatles records from his older brother, trying to learn how to sing and play their songs.
Tobias started producing songs on his first PC at the age of 14. When he was 16 years old, he started dropping his original music on “My Space“.
After finishing school, he moved to Vienna where he worked with the producer Marco Kellbauer.
He formed the project “Ant Antic” in 2015.
He released his debut EP, “Blood Sugar.“, in 2017.
His debut album, “Wealth“, was released in 2017.
In 2019, he released his second EP, “Whoop! EP“.
In 2020, he released his 2nd album “Good Vids, Vile Times“.

Ant Antic is a promising artist that specializes in house and electric music with R&B elements. It could be an interesting direction at Eurovision.

#1. Bibiane Z

Bibiane Z is a German singer-songwriter, based in Berlin.
Her music can be defined as a combination of electro, house, indie, progressive and techno.
During her career, she collaborated with several musicians, DJs and producers like: Robin Schulz, Mausio, Hardwell, Tiësto, David Guetta, Nicky Romero, Sick Individuals, Blasterjaxx, Mausio, and Ummet Ozcan.

The young singer hasn’t released an album yet, but she has released several hits already. Let’s listen to 3 of them:

Bibiane Z is a young but promising artist.
She has already shown her versatile abilities in music, and it seems that it can generate a “formula” for success at Eurovision.
A mixture of genres, she suggests, and the fact that she has been recognized by important musicians and producers, hint that she is here to stay and to be one of the hot things in the indie-house industry.

#2. Bosse 

Axel Bosse (better known as just Bosse) is a 42 year-old German rock singer and guitarist.
He works as an independent artist, but also as a lead singer of a band.
Bosse is also the name of his backup band that consists of: Axel Bosse (vocalist), Thorsten Sala ( guitar), Björn Krüger (drums), and Theofilos Fotiades (bass).
In 2005, he released (with his mentioned band) his first album “Kamikazeherz” (Eng: kamikaze heart). The album picked positive reactions.
The second album came a year later (in 2006) – “Guten Morgen Spinner” (Eng: Good morning, spinner).
Their third album “Taxi” was released in 2009 and got massive attention by the radio stations.
In 2011, the band released their 4th album, “Wartesaal” (Eng: waiting room).
In the same year, the band participated in the “Bundesvision Song Contest” (A local German contest annually between the 16 states of Germany, last edition was held in 2015).
The band performed their song “Frankfurt Oder” and ended in the 3rd place.
In 2011 the band was nominated as the best artist for “1Live Krone 2011”, and eventually ended in the 2nd place.
In 2013, the band released their 5th album, “Kraniche” (Eng: cranes).
In 2013, they returned to the “Bundesvision Song Contest” and this time won with the song “So oder so” (Eng: Either way). The album peaked at number 4th in the German charts.
In 2013 the band was nominated as the best artist for “1Live Krone 2011”, and once again ended as runner-up.
In 2016, the band released the album “Engtanz” (Eng: Narrow dance) which was succussful in Germany (1st place) ,Austria (28th place) and Switzerland (92th place).
In 2018, they released the album “Alles ist jetzta” (Eng: Everything is now) which peaked at nubmer 1st in the German charts.
Their latest (to date) album “Sunnyside” was released in 2021 and peaked in number 3rd in the German charts.

In 2021, he collaborated with the singer Nora Tschirne on the song “Nebensaison” (Eng: low season)

In 2021, he released the song “Wild nach Deinen Augen” (Eng: wild for your eyes)

Bosse can be a great choice for Eurovision.
Years of experience and diverse repertoire prepared him for the big stage, picking local success and having the talent to conquer Europe.
Synthesizers, drum loops, basslines and guitars are on his side.

#1. ILIRA

Ilira Gashi (better known as ILIRA) is a 27 year-old Swiss singer of Albanian descent.
She was born in Bern, Switzerland to an Albanian mother and Kosovo Albanian father.
Ilira started her career in 2011, as part of the band “The Colors“.
They competed in the Swiss selection for Eurovision 2011 with the song “Home“, which ended up in the 3rd place.
Later on, she moved to Germany where she signed a contract with Sony Music.
In 2018, she signed a contract with “Four Music” and released her debut song “Whisper My Name“.
Her second single, “Get Off My D!ck,” went viral and reached Spotify’s Top 50 in the U.S.
Her first chart achievement came following the song “Fading” with the German DJ Alle Farben.
The song peaked 17th in Switzerland, 1st in the Czech Republic, 2nd in Slovakia, 2nd in Poland, 16th in Germany, and 16th in Austria.
She kept on releasing successful singles since 2019 and gained over 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Ilira will take Switzerland in a different direction, more mainstream but perhaps with more international success potential.
She gained a million views and streams, even without releasing any album, so it seems like the future is bright.

#2. ZIAN

Titian Hugenschmidt (better known as ZIAN) is a 27 year-old Swiss singer from Basel.
As a young child, he played drums at the Basel carnival (where he is also active nowadays). Later on, he learned to play piano and guitar by himself.
Titian completed an apprenticeship as a glass apparatus builder, after he had graduated from school.
ZIAN is fluent in English, German and Swiss German.
He has released several singles since 2020, 2 of them reaching the Swiss top 100 chart.
He released his debut album, “Burden” in 2022. The album peaked at number 2nd in the Swiss albums chart, and has stayed on the chart for 13 weeks.
In 2021, he won the “Energy Music Awards” for Swiss artist of the year.
In 2022, he won the “Swiss Music Awards” for best newcomer.
Following his success, he has already booked tour dates between June 2022 and December 2022.

ZIAN has a warm and strong voice. The lyrics for his songs are meaningful.
He creates pop songs, alongside ballads, and it tells us that he is not a “one trick pomy”.
ZIAN released his debut album recently, and it is already a great album.
