The competition was fierce, particularly between Aidan and the energetic Matt Blxck, who finished in second place.
A 50/50 split between a professional jury and public televoting determined the final result:
- Aidan (“Bella”): 283 points (113 Jury / 170 Televote)
- Matt Blxck (“Ejja lejja ħdejja ‘l hawn”): 268 points
While Matt Blxck dominated the televote with 200 points, Aidan’s strong support from the jury and a dedicated fan base propelled him to the top of the leaderboard.
“Bella” (meaning “Beautiful” in both Italian and Maltese) is a departure from the upbeat “Ritmu” style that fans might remember from previous years. It is a jazzy, 1950s-inspired orchestral pop ballad that features lyrics in English, Maltese, and Italian.
Aidan described the song as a “poem” about finding beauty in the midst of heartbreak and decay. The performance was equally striking—beginning with a minimalist, play-on-shadows aesthetic before erupting into a dramatic whirlwind of rose petals. The track was co-written by Aidan himself, alongside Joep van den Boom and Sarah Bonnici (Malta’s 2024 representative).
The Journey to Victory
For Aidan, this win is the culmination of a nearly decade-long journey:
- 2018: Debuted in MESC with “Dai Laga,” finishing 4th.
- 2022: Became a national sensation with “Ritmu,” finishing as the runner-up.
- 2023: Faced a heartbreaking disqualification for “Regina” due to social media promotion rules, a moment that sparked massive debate across the island.
- 2026: Returns with artistic maturity to take the crown.
Eurovision 2026 will be held in Vienna, Austria, on May 12, 14, and 16, 2026. You can follow the contest HOMEPAGE here:
