As we all know, Eurovision 2020 has been cancelled due to the Corona virus. The Netherlands had won Eurovision 2019, and therefore the host city for Eurovision 2020 should have been Rotterdam.
The cancellation of Eurovision 2020 created lost investment of 6.7 million euros. The socialist party doesn’t support the idea that Rotterdam will host Eurovision 2021. The party’s attitude due to financial issues is that the money should help fighting the poverty in the city.
The EBU has asked the municipality of Rotterdam to make a decision about Eurovision 2021 until the end of April 2020. There are two main reasons for the request:
#1. The Corona virus has created financial difficulties that may affect the budgetary capacity of the municipality of Rotterdam.
#2. In case that Rotterdam wouldn’t host Eurovision 2021, another city should be chosen and engage in the required preparation of the hosting.
Yesterday, the municipality of Rotterdam held a vote. The majority of the voters supported the hosting of Eurovision 2021. In addition, they decided that health workers will get free tickets for the shows.
