Iceland: When “Söngvakeppnin 2022” Songs Will Be Revealed?

According to the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV, here are all the known details regarding “Söngvakeppnin 2022” – Iceland’s selection for Eurovision 2022.

  1. RÚV have receieved a total of 158 songs for the selection.
  2. 10 artists will compete in the national selection this year.
  3. 5 artists have been chosen out of public submissions. 5 others have been chosen among established song writers who were directly contacted by RÚV.
  4. The 10 competing artists and their artists will be revealed on Saturday, the 29th of January 2022 during a special TV-Show that will be broadcast on RÚV. On the same day, all the songs will be available on digital platforms.
  5. Söngvakeppnin 2022” will include 3 shows this year:
    • Semi-Final 1: Saturday the 19th of February 2022
    • Semi-Final 2: Saturday the 25th of February 2022
    • Grand Final: Saturday the 5th of March 2022
  6. 5 artists will compete in each semi-final. The results of each semi-final will be determined by public vote only. 2 artists will advance to the final.
  7. There’s a possibility that the jury will give a wild-card to one of the non-qualifiers.
  8. The shows will be held in a new location, in the so-called Singing Competition Hall, which is in the RVK Studios in Gufunes.
  9.  5 artists will compete in the grand final. In the first round, the results will be determined by 50% jury voting and 50% public voting.
  10. In the “Super-Final”, the top 2 artists will compete while the results will be determined solely by the public.

Rúnar Freyr Gíslason, managing director of the competition, said:

“It grows every year. Not only are we experiencing increasing interest among the nation, but it goes without saying that the interest in participation is increasing among both songwriters and performers. Songwriters see that this is a real window into the business, a real springboard, not only in this country but in Europe and elsewhere.”
