Austrian representative 1963 Carmela Corren has passed away.

Carmela Bizman now known as Corren was born in Tel Aviv,Israel. Her dream was to become a dancer but an injury prompted her to switch to a career in singing instead. After she completed her mandatory military service in Israeli Defense Forces. Carmela’s singing career rose to fame when she publicly debuted on The Ed Sullivan Show in New York in 1956. In 1961, she was accompanied to be part of Cliff Richard’s tour in South Africa. 2 years later in 1963 she was approached by Austrian broadcaster ORF to represent Austria with the song ”Vielleicht geschieht ein Wunder” and she came 7th place.

Until the late 1970’s Carmela released several albums having ballads and chansons in multiple countries like in German, English, French, Spanish, and Greek under the Ariola Bogue and Decca labels.

Carmela appeared in several films during 1960s including spy thrillers like ”Voyage to Danger” (1962) and the drama ”His Best Friend” (1962). She also acted in a few musicals and cordoned popular songs in English clubs and greater success in Austrian and German TV variety specials. Between 1966 and 1970 she was married to the German music producer Horst Geiger and had 2 children. In 1973 she moved to Florida, United States where she lived the rest of her. She left a daughter and son. She passed away on 16th January 2022 at the age of 83.
